Here is a quote from CCN about bushmaster
"The Bushmaster is known as a cheap gun".

I beg to differ!!!

Here is a link to the story.

Just another one of my useless rants....

It's obvious from reading that brief "article" that Sergeant Major Haney is a complete f**king idiot.

He may have been Delta, but it's painfully evident that he doesn't know jack about Bushmaster or the current crop of quality ARs out there.

What a moron.

I wonder if this Haney guy meant cheap in that it is inexpensive but not cheap in quality?  Hard to tell.  If he meant cheap in quality he is ignorant and needs to work on his rifle knowledge. I would love to find a brand new Bushmaster for $500 or $600.  Maybe in the 70's.  I paid $800 for mine at www.impactguns.com and I thought that was a great deal.  I just hope the anti guns nuts don't start slamming the AR15 and lobby to have it banned because of those psychos.

I shoot tin cans and coyotes with mine.

www.bushmaster.com is like down because so many people or visiting it now.  I tried to get on all day and could not to buy some stuff.

Data: Thanks for the link to the coverage on cnn.com.
Stay calm gentlemen. It's just another retired Army talking-head out looking for a handout from the liberal media. I am not dismissing the value of his military service to our country. However, his disregard on his own lack of knowledge of firearms which led to misinforming the public is shameful.  Save your energy folks. It's going to be a long battle ahead to preserve our right to keep and bear arms to protect our lives, our families, and our homeland. Make sure y'all get out there and vote next month to keep our rights alive.

With the recent quality issues with Bushy, CNN may not be too far off the mark!

I feel Troy hit it about right.

I've been in the Army for close to 20 years, having put lots of rounds through M16's.

But until a few years ago I'd never heard of Bushmaster, and when I heard the name, all that came to my ignorant mind too was CHEAP.

SGM Haney was in a unit that gets stuff that the regular Army will NEVER see.  Based on that, I would think that to HIM and what he's accustomed to in terms of weapons, Bushmaster, and probably all the other AR manufacturers (Armalite, RRA, Wilson, Les Baer, etc.) BESIDES Colt, would be cheap too.

What angers me the most is how the media will put a name on an evil weapon/rifle every time one is used to commit a crime. But, if I was drunk on Miller Lite, driving a Ford Vehicle and killed a family of six due to driving drunk. You will never hear what kind of beer I drank (only how drunk I was) and you will never hear what kind of vehicle I was driving.

What has happened is a tragedy and I feel for the families, but, IT'S NOT THE GUN STUPID

Here is the full article, I would have bet money that when was noted the sniper was using a 223 that it would have come back to some AR.

(CNN) -- The Bushmaster .223 rifle is less popular among game hunters than its name suggests.

But, like the venomous snake for which it is named, the high-powered rifle is deadly.

The gun, according to Eric Haney, a retired U.S. Army sergeant major, is "for those who want the general feel of a military weapon." It's the semi-automatic version of the civilian model of the U.S. military M-16 manufactured by Colt.

A Bushmaster weapon, according to a law enforcement source, was found inside the car of the sniper suspects arrested October 24.

The weapon is sufficient for target shooting long distances, said Haney, who served with the U.S. Army's elite Delta Force in the 1970s and 1980s and was one of its founding members.

"I would have been very surprised if they had not found a scope on that weapon," Haney said. With a scope, the shooter is able to find targets at night more easily, he said.

The Bushmaster make is one of the less expensive models of the of the semi-automatic rifle, usually costing between $500 and $600, he said. "The Bushmaster is known as a cheap gun," Haney said.

Nor is it hard to operate.

"[It's easy to use] for the type of shooting we saw in the Washington area," Haney said. "Almost an 8-year-old child can be taught to do that in an hour, and hour-and-a-half."

At least all this bad PR has not shifted opinions much: Fox News had a poll said 79% of people don't think stronger gun control laws would stop this kind of shooting. You know the remaining 21% are die hard gun haters.

Sheesh.  Where can *I* find Bushmasters for $500 or $600?  Heck, I'll buy a boatload..

Feeling a little insulted at the notion that Bushmasters are inexpensive, cheap, low quality firearms.

Delta Doggy or not,
He's a bleedin' idiot!
He sold out the truth for the media handout, and fell right into the hands of the Socialist, left wingers that would use him as a TOOL.
In Marx's terms that makes him a "Usefull idiot".

Delta might get high speed toys, but as an "Expert" he should realize that the entire D.O.E.,and several other Govt. agencys are issuing Bushmaster rifles...not to mention 2/3 of the high end private security contractors, and NOT Colt or other makers.

As an expert he could have applied "Cheap" to an NEF Handi-rifle that would have been just as effective but he made the comment as an expert.

I would shake his hand and thank him for his Military service if we were to ever meet, but past that he's a sellout,an idiot, and a pathetic excuse for someone who is labeled a firearms expert.

Notice the medias "Firearms experts" all seem to have the same Bent?

Get Marcinko,Watson,or Mahwhiney on the tube and see what they would say.

Better yet get Sarah Brady on the tube and see if her comments are any different than Haney's.

Time to buy another Bushmaster before it's too late, and to help fund their warchest for the impending onslaught of lawsuits.

We all need another one don't we?

Time to vote with the wallet.

Ok, you talked me into it, I'll buy another one! .........cool, thanks.

I agree, I think we should hoard all things related. whether we need them or not. The ban caused a buying frenzy like never before. not just guns, reloading components, etc. The manufacturers caught on, now sales are through the roof. I figure the more there are to take, the less likely they will be willing to try and take them.

My gawd, sitting here thinking only of the impending gun bans, I didn't stop to think that Bushmaster would be fighting off lawsuits from 14 victims' families!!  Damn this litigious society!  I certainly hope that Bushmaster has retained some good pro-gun lawyers on their side, they'll need all the help they can get.

What a world we live in...

Is there another thread on this board where members are discussing this "sniper" guy topic?

The black rifle will be persecuted longer and more aggressively by the liberal media than the black perps will ever be.

I must admit, Haney has, so far, not impressed me with his general firearms and ballistics knowledge.  Several times, I've tuned in to him talking about something on which he did not seem to have a confident grasp.  I don't think he's doing himself any favors, other than financially, by becoming an "analyst" for CNN and/or any other networks.

This, of course, has no bearing on his contributions while in service to his country.  I don't doubt his bravery or his contribution.  However, if you know a network is classifying you as an "expert" on a given subject, you had damned sure better actually be one.

where does he buy a 500.00 ar15 bushmaster or other wise, I personally like colt, bushmaster is a close 2nd. And still just as spendy as a colt even in the pre and post ban versions. Definatly not an expert on what weapons sell for on the civilian market.
