THINKING ABOUT MY 1ST BUILD. I KEEP SEEING LOTS OF CMMG STUFF THAT SEEMS TO BE RESONABLY PRICED. I DO NOT HAVE A TON OF MONEY AND WOULD LIKE TO PUT IT TOGETHER MYSELF IF POSSIBLE. HOW DOES CMMG RATE? I KNOW ITS NOT LMG QUALITY BUT HOW DO THEY RATE? REALLYWANT SOME ADVISE ON BRAND NAMES TO STAY AWAY FROM AS WELL AS WHAT TO GET. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

If you're just asking about CMMG quality then they are one of the best for the money while incorporating a lot of nice features & options in their products. I've had a few but currently only own one of their 10.3's & it's top notch...my primary duty carbine. If you want to order factory direct to take advantage of their vast order option feature then be prepared to wait (still a lot less than that dreaded RRA wait time) a few to several weeks. Otherwise find what you want from a local shop if available or find a stocking online dealer to receive the order in a timely manner.

I'm probably only one of the few arfcom members that has had a bad QS/bad order experience with CMMG & still recommend them without getting childish & bashing them. But the fact still remains that their QS has lacked. You may get what you ordered & if you do there's a chance that the order will be incorrect. Their barrels are frequently out of stock. Jeff (owner) has come here recently to advise that he's fixed the bugs with the company but I dunno since still undecided whethere or not I want to take a chance with them again.

There are many companies that have had & still have the same problems but CMMG is still relatively new on the AR scene. They have grown rapidly for a small business & I suspect that some the problems were growing pains. Many folks are quite harsh on companies that put out items that we want yet can't keep up with the demand & QC suffers. Nature of the beast as I see it but time will tell if the problems have been rectified. I would like to get another CMMG because they offer features that I like but their prices have gone up as well.

Advising the intended use for your rifle will help others give you suggestions but you will get more biased opinions than objective intel on this site. I will advise the one company to definitely stay away from is Vulcan aka Hess aka Blackthorne aka Velocity Firearms. Avoid them like you should avoid demorats.

Thanks for the answer. Sorry about the caps. What about Del-ton. They seem to be inexpensive but I see alot of people mention them. How about Essentiial Arms. I read a thread about lowers and found them. I will use it as a Tactical Entry weapon. I am a Tactical Medic on our Police SWAT team. We have recently started carrying long guns. Plus with the big O scare who knows?

CMMG lowers are excellent, i love my CMMG mid-length 14.5 upper and i had a positive experience with them. there were some post about spotty quality controll and very long waits on getting ordered items. as posted above CMMG has hired more people to help with the work load, so maybe thing have gotten better in that area. CMMG has a tier one product in my opinion, i would not hestitate to use one of their upper on any build or project

you ask about Del-Ton, they have a good reputation around here. i personally have used J&T for years now and have ALWAYS recieved an excellent product, the only thing i don't like about J&T is that don't offer a mid-length and Del-Ton does. if your buying a rifle kit either way you will not go wrong

on the lower recievers, this gets tricky because everyone has favorites and are biased to some brand. in all honesty a forged, mil.spec. lower is what you want. i use to use Double Star lowers on everything until i came across Anvil Arms. the Anvil lowers are 100 bucks and you can get free laser engraving if you wish, top quality fit and finish on these lowers also. Stag, CMMG, DPMS, Rock River, Double Star, Anvil Arms are lowers i've built on all have been excellent, many other companies out there have top quality also, Mega, Spikes, LAR, are all good. alot of the same lowers come from the same machine shops with different roll marks, it comes down to price and avaliabilty really.

Aim surplus has good prices on CMMG uppers (16in middy and carbine) as well as a complete CMMG lower (minus the buttstock assembly).  Plus shipping is only $.01. You might want to look into that, their link can be found above -Jon

Thank you all for your advise. I am reallyexcited to begin my 1st build. Believe it or not the wife is behind me to. We are both a little scared of a Communist being elected Pres. I think I may go with a Del-Ton. You cant beat the price. I may build one for a neighbor who is a former Marine. So I may get a Spikes Lower engraved with the corps emblem on the side, I think that would be sharp. That will be my 2nd or 3rd build, don't want to screw that one up. Thanks again guys!

We all are bro, trust me. I'm trying to get my hands on one of those CMMG uppers before Nov 4th....I'm afraid of a price hike in the event Osama bin Biden wins the race. Spike's makes a great lower, but don't overlook Anvil Arms if you want custom engraving. I had Jon at AA design and engrave a custom lower for me with the Air Combat Command logo on the magwell and my name, rank and dates of service by the pins. It turned out FLAWLESS and the lower has one of the best fits/finishes that I've seen. Well worth my $100, and I'll be ordering from him again for my future builds.

Looks like you already made your decision, but in case you haven't, here's another +1 for CMMG.   I have 2 of their lowers, one on a 18" LaRue Stealth upper and one on a CMMG upper.  Both perform great, not probs at all.  I bought the 2nd upper while CMMG was in the mist of some order fulfillment issues,  I got it from MI on sale, in stock and it worked out to be a pretty decent deal.  From the sounds of it, the CMMG issues are in the past, but check wait times if you order one.

I went with a 14.5" middy with MI rails on it & I love it.  Just long enough to get me to the 16" I need to be legal here in Michigan, but not as long, and heavy as my 18"

If I could do it again, I'll look at AIM as mentioned it a post above, due to there shipping fee (0.01 of CMMG) and their fast shipping.

As for ones to stay away from, you heard who to avoid.  Most manufacturers are good, some are better and very few suck.  On uppers, you get what you pay for, but on lowers, there is little difference in the majority of them so know what you are looking for and shop for a bargain as long as it doesn't say Blackthorn/Hess/Vulcan or whatever their new name is...

BTW, I had a LMT as you mention in your post, but sold it,  Wish I didn't.  They are nice and the guy I sold it to in the EE said it's the best shooting upper he has ever had... I should have kept it, I should have kept it, I should have kept it...

Very nice... Gets me thinking of an AFSOC/ AMC badge split... I tried looking online at AA and I found some pictures of some of their past work, do they just work off clip art?

Basically, yes. I forget the exact image requirements, but they are fairly easy to meet. It has to be a certain format and size, then he imports it directly into the laser machine, tweaks it for clarity and location, and viola. He does great work though.

WOW! that is a beautiful lower! He did some very nice work. A very nice touch for your weapon (pat on the back!). Funny you mention Anvil just got off their web site. Very Proff. Needs more pics though. I have heard nice thing about them and now I see why! I t would be cool to Moly Coat a build maybe even 2 tone. Hey I noticed that on one side you have your fire and safe painted white & red but not the other. You do this or Anvil? If you what kind of paint ?hy.gifhaving
