I have some 40 gn Ballistic tip Ammo loaded with 25.5 gn's of H335 powder... I think the data calls for 3300 fps

If I were to shoot this in a 1/7 twist M-4 will this junk come apart? How about a 1/9 twist M-4?

Try it in the 1/7. Some say this holds together, some say it won't. Then you'll know for sure.

I've shot loads of 45 gr Winchester white box through my 1/8 RRA. Not a one ever failed to make it to the target.

I've shot 40gr Vmax and 45gr Sierra out of a 1/7. The Vmax approached 3600fps and it stayed together. The Sierra was slower, but no problems.

You never know until you try.

I believe the Nosler line of Ballistic Tip bullets to be more solidly constructed than that of the Hornady Vmax.

At 3300fps I doubt you'll blow it apart by a 1:7 so give it a shot.

The one bullet I suspect would be fragile in a 1:7 is the Speer 50grn TNT, that is a seriously light construction bullet.

Because you're confused.

A 1/7 is faster than a 1/9.

1 turn every 7 inches is faster than 1 turn every 9 inches.

You're confused then. A9k answered the question saying the original poster could shoot the 40 in a 1/9 but not a 1/7.
