Hi, folks.

I am looking for a good rail system that is easy to install/remove. Tentatively, I have been considering the CASV-EL and RAS II. I like that the top rail on the Vltor is all one plane, but I wonder if the removable rails (as cool an idea as it is) wouldn't loosen, etc. The RAS II is still a great rail, and the "shot show special" deals are great. Anyone else going through a similar choice or anyone who likes either one of these rail systems willing to share their thoughts?

Thanks.

The RASII is untouchable if the Aimpoint is your optic of choice. Otherwise why would you have the hump on the upper reciever?

My carbine uses a RASII / Larue set up for my Aimpoint, and I swear by it.

I have the CASV-EL. The detachable rails have not loosened on mine at all. Overall I am very pleased with it.

See, I am a little unsure on optics, which is my major hangup. I had planned on trying an Accupoint this time, but my purchases keep pointing me in the direction of an Aimpoint a la Larue BUIS, etc. I'm not trying to make a super-accurate carbine, but I'm not crazy about a lot of the non-FF rails and I'm not sure I should attempt a Larue/DD/etc. rail system install. Hmmm.

Thanks, Hokie. I gotta think about it a little more.

The RAS II is probably the most impressive KAC product I have owned.

The tolerances are awesome. My problems were limited mounting space and that bump getting in the way of my plans.

If you intend to use magnified optics and night vision-- moving optics back and forth on the rail-- it's nice to have that one piece toprail.

If you can do what you intend to do with the RAS II it's probably the better product. If you need that toprail or more mounting space forward you'll have to go the other route.

Deffinitely go with a free floated system. Why not just do one of the newer Troy/Samson rail systems; as far as I know all you have to do is dremel cut the delta ring off.

Another option is to order a barrel fitted for a lo-pro gas block or PRI front sight with two screws and just install your DD or other rail and then set screw the gas block with loctite. It's a simple install.

Or you could just get a barrel other than Bushmaster (with the std flat-end taper pins) and get ADCO's brass hammer, a punch at the hardware store and ADCO's delrin front site base block and you should have no problems punching out the pins for the rial install. [that's the only operation I could see worrying anyone.]

Here's a RASII / Larue / Aimpoint (ML2) visual for you. I shoot 4MOA at 200 yards with this upper. That's more than good enough for me.

My carbine during the initial build.

Thanks for the pics, guys. BigBore, do you loctite the screws that attach the rails?

Nice pics everyone.

Bigbore, how is the fit of the TD VFG on the CASV-EL?

Fits perfectly. I have found the fit of TD VGs varies from grip to grip. Recently I had balck one on a DD rail that fit fine, but I replaced it with a green one which had to be put pounded on with a hammer. But hey, they're just plastic so its expected.

Grant will be along shortly to tell you that your DD rail was out of spec, not the TD grips that were not alike.

Good to know. Thanks BigBore!

The Larue BUIS fits perfectly with the CASV. The Accupoint would work better with the CASV, but if going with an Aimpoint, the RASII is probably your best bet.
