I've been looking to buy an AR-15.  I've almost pulled the trigger and bought a Rock River Predator Pursuit for ~$900

Now I'm thinking of building my own.  I'm looking at getting a stripped lower and a varmint rifle kit from www.model1sales.com

Am I missing out on accuracy by building my own.  Meaning, does Rock River or other companies do any accurizing to their rifles that I won't get by building my own.

I want this to be a shooter.  Will I get a shooter with a Model 1 Sales kit?

Please share your thoughts, ideas, and EXPERIENCE.

build your own. i can't comment on how they hold up against factory made because i have only built my AR's. though, i have shot a few RRAs and i didn't notice a difference at all.

You can still buy a stripped rock river lower to complete the build.

I don't have a model1 but my first build was M&A, I think about the same thing and it's an accurate sweet shooting rifle, very happy and I have about $500 in it not $900.

I say build your own. Plenty folks here to help you out. My first was a Model 1 kit a H-bar ss shaw barrel and it's a tack driver I have lots of confidence in it and I saved enough money to buy a quality scope and mounts. But I have no warranty if it breaks I have to fix it myself, as stated before plenty help here in trouble shooting section too. Have had it 3 years no problems yet. Also look at J&T I used one of there kits flawless also, it's a lightweight blaster and gets abused.

On the Model 1 Sales varmint rifle kit, the only thing you can't upgrade is the trigger.  I'm thinking this is something I might want to upgrade if I build my own.  Any advice on what trigger to go with for a varmint, predator tack driver?

Thanks

I just put this together.  RRA stripped lower, DPMS lower parts (don't like the trigger, will be changing), RRA midlength upper, rifle length free float, cut  down gas block to fit under float tube.  Total cost without scope/rings/bipod was around 625.00 for all brand new stuff, not even trying to save by shopping around for "gently used" stuff.  I plan to use it for groundhogs and such.

Well, that photo didn't post so well.  I'll try a link

I'm planning on a fluted bull barrel and getting a trigger upgrade to a timney or RRA 2 stage.

Are there any other upgrades that I should look into to get optimum accuracy?

building your own, if somthing does not work correctly you can have a single part replaced rather than sending the entire rifle in for service. "same thing with computers"

typical2, I have a H-bar barrel and it is plenty heavy and it's fluted.  RRA uses a H-bar barrel on their PP rifle I think a bull barrel would be really heavy more of a bench rifle. I have Jewell triggers in both mine, in J&T kit it was a listed upgrade. I liked it so much I got 1 for my other rifle bought the other here pretty good deal. Bruno Shooters Supply  Also get a free float tube almost everyone will agree they help accuracy.
Keep reading lots of info here but, some have more money to spend than others I had to be conservative.
