A local dealer has a one new for $1000,  Is this a good price?  Would this be redundant with my 1992 vintage Colt H-Bar?  Opinions on the Varminter?

I got mine for about the same price, and I know a local dealer has one for around there.  So, $1000 seems par for the course.  

Also, the fellow over at GunBlast.com reports and shows a group smaller than a dime at 100yds, which to me is pretty impressive.  I called Bushmaster, torn beween the Varminter and the Special Varminter (w/ target grip and stainless barrel), and asked which rifle has the potential to be more accurate, to which they responded the Varminter.

It's my first AR15, so I hope I'm not going to be disapointed (it's a Christmas gift).
