First time I've taken off the gas block to wipe down the gas tube, and was appalled to see brown rings circling around the gas port on my SS barrel.  And they're not coming off.  This normal?

The gas seal between the gas block and barrel and the gas block and tube are not perfect and leakage will occur.

As for stains, remember stains less not stain free.
