So basically I'm looking to build my first AR, I have 1 AR under my belt with an RRA complete that I bought about 6 months ago and I'm looking to build my own now. After poking around in the A4 clone thread I decided since I already have a carbine I want a rifle next. I was wondering what are some good uppers to start with.

After reading around I see a lot of people go with the BCM upper, So I'm guessing this is the go to upper. Only bad thing is they're out of stock right now and I don't know what kind of lead times BCM carries.

I've Also seen a lot of A4 clones running around with this upper. From what I've read on here cmmg is good to go. Only bad thing is the price compared to BCM and their site also doesn't list the stock status(none that I can see at least).

Lastly I found the PSA upper after some more poking around. I don't really know much about their stuff at all, but from the descriptions it sounds like their good to go.

Those are the three that I have in mind right now. Please chime in with any opinions on these or any other company that makes a good A4 upper. Thanks guys.

BCM uppers come into stock fairly often, I got one 3 weeks ago. Palmetto State has had a lot of good reviews lately. CMMG less so.

I would go PSA. It claims a lot, but PSA has broken onto the AR scene with extremely good customer service and excellent products. I have their lowers, their bolts, and their parts, and they are all of excellent quality. BCM would be the most ideal choice, but a lot of us don't always live in the ideal world and if you want to save some money, PSA would be an excellent bargain. I don't know where you stand on prices but here is something to think about:

BCM A4 upper:
Upper and barrel (399) + Handguards (25) + Charging handle (25) + BCG (130) + used Colt carry handle (50) = $629

PSA A4 upper:
20'' Premium Upper w/ CH, BCH, Handguards (410) + used Colt carry handle (50) = $460
