I found some really odd blue/turqoise type stuff on the muzzle end of one of my AR's barrels today, basically along the outside of the crown. Its all along the inside of the flash hider as well, anyone know what this might be?

it's corroded copper from the jacket on your rounds.

is it bad for the barrel?

you said its on the outside right? thats somewhat normal. it dosnt happen all the time but with some types of ammo and esspecially when I dont clean the rifle for a while I notice it. its just copper that possibly gets vaporized and condenses on the muzzle. if not then its copper that comes out with the carbon fouling during firing that builds up. I most usually notice it on the piston in my M1.

The blue residue is oxidized copper. It may be from solvent that carried the copper to the muzzle. It really won't hurt anything and can be cleaned off with a decent bore solvent.

Maybe it's the "kool-aid" everyone keeps talking about.

It's not a Colt, is it? Those damn things are, apparently, DRIPPING with the stuff.

Hey buddy,

You should look for Smurfs w/flash-hider shaped marks on them. If you can't find any, then... the other guys are right

Took me a while to figure that out w/mine.
