I've read the thread on refinishing mags and need to refinish a few of my own.  Really would like to find a black finish.  I understand that Perma silk is gray only.  Any Sugestions???

Thats a good question.  I was wondering the same exact thing.  I would love to finish some of my old mags black as well and was thinking about resorting to black spray paint.  If there is a better way, which i'm sure there is, I would love to here about it.

Gun-Kote from Brownell's.  I may try it myself.

I would think anything sprayed on would wear off and could end up in your receiver.

It shouldn't, magwell I can see.  If you are referring to stuff chipping from inside the mag hinking.gif
as long as it's teflon or moly then everything should be okay. hippie.gif

The Brownell's spray stuff sounds like good stuff.  I wonder how prep work is involved?  "Just degrease and abrasive-blast the part."  How do you abrasive blast a mag?

I did some mags with the Brownell's black teflon moly and they turned out great.

1. Disassemble
2. Degrease with something - I use brake cleaner (shoots from the can) then wipe clean...try to keep fingerprints to a minimum
3. Bake at 200 for 15 to 20 minutes to warm up
4. Put hair dryer on teflon moly can for about a minute or two then shake really good
5. Hang mags on coathangar
6. Spray mags (get the inside too...makes the followers slide better)
7. Bake again after 20-30 minutes of drying
8. Done
