"automated bullet machines"?

The Lake City Army Ammunition plant in Missouri is the world's largest small caliber munitions plant in the world. In 2006, it will have made nearly 1.4 billion bullets.

The plant employs over 2,000 workers who manufacture 6 million bullets a day, 5.56mm, 7.62mm. .50 caliber and 20mm rounds.

An automated bullet machine turns out rounds. Since 9/11, the production of bullets has skyrocketed by over 300% at the factory.

The plant uses bullet machines to satisfy the growing needs of the U.S. military. Bullets are now shipped directly to the field instead of to stockpiles.

Racks of completed M-4 rifles await test firing at the Colt Defense machine gun factory in Hartford, CT. Colt sells to the U.S. military, special forces, and 80 countries including Israel, Colombia, Iraq, Afghanistan, the Philippines and France.

Colt readies an M-4 rifle to deliver to the U.S. Dept. of Defense. Colt, a maker of military equipment for 150 years, sends out about 8,000 assault rifles per month.

You're probably right I wish they'd send me just one of this month's 8,000 M4s in shrink wrap to my front door!

8,000 assault rifles per month.

That's 96,000 per year. How many replacement rifles are needed? I know that not all of those rifles are for the US Military, but that's still a ton of rifles. When will the military market get super saturated?

Hardwarz

I would hate to be stuck in the LC plant if it went up in smoke. I am sure they have one heck of a fire alarm system. They probably have their own fire department.

Boy, it is aggravating to me to see the article’s author use the item “Making Bullets.” Yaw dumb idiot, yes, LC does make bullets, but the bullets are then assembled into ammunition! Another non-gun person not knowing what he or she is not talking about.

That said, thanks for the information. The pictures are very interesting, especially the last one with the M4 Carbine in the blue-colored shrink wrap.
