I did a search and did not find an answer.

Where is the best place to mount a flashlight?  I know ease of operation and switch location play a role so if that where not an issue, where best to mount one?

A. Top
B. Bottom
C. Side

I ask incase there are shadow or performance  issues involved.

As was stated above, your primary placement should be what works for you.

On my carbine, I like 3 o'clock. The reason being is that the 7"

of rail limits the real estate for a six o clock mounting. I like the right side because my sling's on the left.

FWIW

Im a left handed shooter an use my thumb to activate my light, mines mounted at 9 oclock but would fell better a little lower. Im going to try an offset mount when I get some money.

Where your left thumb can activate it without moving very far from your usual grip.

For me that's at 9 o'clock with a VFG and thumb foward grip.

I agree that your primary place to mount your light should be what works for you and where your thumb could reach the button without moving your grip much.

With my 9" midlength rails it is more flexible (more rail area) because I could place it either at 3, 6, or 9 o'clock, but when I'm using my VFG I mostly mount it on the 3 position, sometimes at 6 if I don't want to hit my light with the barricade and rarely I use the 9 position when I'm not using my VFG.

On my shorter 7" carbine rails there is less room so mostly I mount it at the 3 position with VFG and at 9 without VFG, not much room at the 6 position with or without a VFG so I don't use that position.

The best thing to do is practice the different positions, with your weapon in safe condition turn off the lights in your house and clear all your rooms using all the different positions until you find out which one you prefer.

Good Idea! I'll give that a try.

Give this a try.

*Completely ambidextrous
*Balanced load
*No weapon warts on the side of your rifle to bang your knees when slung
*Extremely low weight (3.7 ounces)
*Minimal barrel shadowing
*Obstruction free of iron and optical sights
*Can work with or without FVG's
*Presents an obstruction free handguard
*Cheaper than most other options
