Opinions?
Looking at the Burris Fullfield II... I noticed some places offer a combo package with either a GPS, Spotting Scope or Binoculars for $199. |

Nikon Monarch 3-9x from SWFA for $218.00

Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40 $250 bearbasin.com. The Nikon Monarch would also be a good choice.

Thanks for the replies.
I also found the Burris FF2 for $155 on ebay. Money is always a factor, and I know $50-$100 is a drop in the hat as far as optics are concerned, but my wife and I just had a baby and I've already spent $1k on the rifle. Will spending $250 on the Bushnell, Nikon or Leupold make that much of a difference? FWIW, I'm not set on any one scope... I'd just like to spend as little as possible for a quality piece. The rifle will mostly be used for target/plinking, but I do plan to take it out for the occasional hunt. |

I just picked this Aetec from Simmons. I wanted side focus:
LINK I have been very pleased with the 1-5x Simmons shotgun scope that is mounted on my AR, so I didn't have any qualms about picking another one. I am currently using a Bushnell and the rear bell has come loose. When you rock the bell, you can see the point of aim shift several inches. It was priced around $180, IIRC, wholesale, at Jerry's Sport Center. (It is going on a Ruger 10-22) |
Oddly enough, this scope is on the same order. An associate picked this for his elk rifle. I also ordered the Nikon Monarch for another associate a couple months ago. Seems there is a meeting of the minds on this thread... |
I got my Leopold 3x9 on Ebay for about $200. I like it, good scope for the price. |
An excellent suggestion too. Those SII'S are really nice for the money. Exceptional glass quality and they track great also. |
Right. The Monarch, IMHO, is the "best bang for the buck" right now. The scope was popular and sold for more when they came out, so don't let the low price fool you.... Nikon is revamping their Monarch line this year and this scope is one of the older units, but it's still a great scope in it's own right. Good shooting!! |
I picked up a FFII last year with the binoculars. Outstanding value, and I think it beats the heck out of any Leupold in the same price range. Nikon makes a good scope too in that price range, as does Sightron. I looked at all of them and went with the Burris. |

Easy. The Weaver GS I have for sale here: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=23&t=475250]
Purchased this one - love it full 30mm tube. Glass is clear and not reduced in the tube
3.5 - 10 x40mm Well worth the money I spent |
I agree.I have a Rifleman in 2X7 and hove found it to be a wonderfull value! |
What is "Team Primos"? How come this scope costs $100+ less than listed everywhere else? Also, I don't see a 3-9x40mm Monarch listed on the Nikon homepage??? |
Primos are hunting calls. Probably just a promo for them. The new Monarch line is coming out and the older version, like the 3-9x I linked, is left over. But, once they are gone, their gone. The NikonUSA webpage has the "new" Monarchs listed, and they aren't making a 3-9x any more. |

I can't say enough good things about my Burris FFII 3-9x40. I've compared it pretty extensively to my buddy's Leupold VX-II and found that the Burris has slightly better light trans at low light conditions, optics are at least as good or better, has the Ballistic Plex reticle, and FULL lifetime warranty just like Leupy. Everyone has the GPS deal going as well. Heck, buy one and I'll buy the GPS from you!

I've been looking at this scope and I'm wondering about going up to 50mm. I have shakey eyes [seriously, I have some nystagmus] and I only got an AR this year. From having once owned an expensive telescope, size=light. Is the 50mm going to be a tad brighter, and hopefully less tiring on the eyes? Or is there a drawback to going up to 50mm? Thanks in advance, Walsh |
I would think the increase in size going from 40 to 50mm would also allow more light in. But I’m really not qualified to give out advice on magnified optics seeing how this is my first scope and I’m still learning myself. Can anyone in the know help out Walsh? |

The short answer is no, the 50mm objective won't help you. |
Any ideas what the "improvements" will be and what the name will be changed/modified to? Thanks, Walsh |
Thanks for posting that. Walsh |

Walsh:
4x erector, 4" fixed eye relief, side focus was added to some models. The did away with adjustable objectives. Changed around some power ranges too. Here's the website. www.thenewmonarch.com/ |

What's the main difference between the Nikon Prostaff and Monarch 3x9 scopes. I know there is about a $60 less cost for the Prostaff. Is there a significant difference to warrant the extra cost?
Thanks |
One thing I don't like about the Rifleman is its 1/2 MOA clicks. The VX-I is pretty much in the same ball game as far as $$$$ and has 1/4 MOA clicks. 1/2 MOA just happens to be one of my little peeves.
Is that the Prostaff or Monarch that you have on your rifle. What rings did you end up using? They look like the QD type which I prefer.
Thanks..
I do agree with you there. Still it's a great scope for the money. Optics are clear and it always returns to zero and the adjustments are true. |
Prostaff 3-9X40 /BDC. Rings are ARMS #22H. |
IF money is an issue you might check out a refurbished 3x9 Nikon Buckmaster at Natchez for $139.
Hey brother,
You're selling it for more here than someone on Ebay, and you're not charged for the ad here! Hmmmm picture looks familar. Tsk tsk tsk, for shame...
Of course money is always a consideration, but I've found you get what you pay for...Sometimes...
Yeah, but if you sold it here, and if someone bid on ebay right after you sold it here, your butt would be in a sling. That was my point...
Oh,,,got it. No. It is only on eBay now. When the auction ends, it may be back here. Why the hell doesn't anybody want a Grand Slam????? |
Either someone isn't looking for one right now, or if they are looking for one they haven't found yours for sale. Although, after advertising, price is king... Good Luck..

Thank you Walsh |
