It seems that the only barrel length that is sized properly for an M7 bayonet would be the standard 20". Although pre-ban (now no ban) 16" barrels had lugs, it would seem the distance between the lug and end of barrel would significantly reduce the working length of the bayonet. Am I missing something here or is 20" really the only correct length?

A 14.5" barrel will accept a bayonet as well.

You are right. The 20" is the only one that it will fit on correctly (over 16" of course). There is a company that sells bayonets that will fit on a 16" www.prebanarms.com
Hope this helps

if you have a 11.5/5.5 combo with a bayo. lug it will fit ,but only about 1/2 of the blade is exposed

I think it fits on a mid-length as well.
