I'd like to have my barrel cut/rethreaded and have a Noveske KX3 perm attached to make the barrel 16".  What length should the barrel be cut to?

I believe length should be 14.5     I have a KX3 at home and can measure it tonight to be sure.

I use a 13.7 infidel barrel from Noveske, howevr I dont believe its made any longer.

13.7 + the KX3 makes you legal 16" for non NFA guys wanting a KX3

So I would have ADCO cut my 18" down to 13.7" and then attach the KX3?  Got it.  Thanks!

What gas system on you 18" barrel? Rifle length would be a no-go on a 13.7" barrel without adjusting the gas port.

18" middy would be my guess.

Still, gas port may be something to consider with something like this, depnding on the barrel maker and what type of ammo you'll be using, buffer combo, etc.

I don't really see the point of the KX3 on anything longer than 7.5-10.5" barrels, but to each his own.

If I were cutting down an 18" middy, I'd pin a Vortex on a 14.5" and be done with it.  My $0.02.

It's a complete LaRue stealth upper, 18" barrel, midlength gas, 12" handguards.  I handload my ammo, right now my stash is fairly "weak" loads in the interest of using as little powder as possible.  I'm running a UBR stock, so it's a carbine buffer.  I could switch to an H or H2 if needed, obviously.

So, is this going to work or . . . .?

+1. Funky barrel length but it works

Funky yes

the 13.7  barrel will do fine for a SHTF carbine

75gr TAP in 5.56mm or 223rem
The frag range is more than enough for us civiis

Do you know if the 13.7" will work ok with a middy gas system?

Noveske's 13.7 Middy works fine, so I don't see why the Stealth should have any problems assuming a similar sized gas port.

We're probably making more out of this than it needs to be, but you might want to contact LaRue and see what they recommend with regard to stock choice, buffer weight, and ammo with their middy Stealth systems @ 13.7"

Ordinarily, a CAR or H buffer are fine for a middy.  Although some use H2 if exclusively using hot 5.56 NATO (in lieu of the comparitively weaker .223) with gas ports that run on the small size.
Your CAR buffer should be fine.
(Again: my vote is to skip the pig, chop to 14.5" and pin a Vortex on there.

)

The KX3 is almost a pound added to the end of your barrel.
Read in that thread that I added a cold link to.
Many people find it unnessasary.

It would be great on a 10.5 or 11.5 upper to help with concussion but to be pinned not so much.

I didnt want to poop on it so I didnt bring that up. I had one on my 12.5" and found it less than beneficial and very top heavy. It lasted about a month before it went back up for sale.

I run one on a CMMG 13.7 middy.  Works great for my purposes.  Couldn't be happier with it.  Of course HI is a no-SBR state.  If I were allowed I'd be running something a lot shorter.

I'm running 12.0 LT.  How much room do you have between the end of your rail and the KX3?  Over an inch, I hope.
