Do barrel extentions com predrilled for the location of the alingment pin?  My father is a retired machinist and he would like to machine a barrel blank into barrel " just to try it". I was explaining to him how they are set up and this was his only question.

Honestly, I don't know, but the location of the index pin has to be 180 degrees opposite of the center of the feed ramps on the barrel extension. So it's either pre-drilled, or he's gonna have to drill it exactly where it wasn't pre-drilled.

My money is on, yes it's pre-drilled.

Randall from AR15Barrels.com has an excellent write up on how he does barrels. It includes a reference to the barrel extensions. You may want to contact him or visit his site. He is a nice guy to deal with, and is the person I will go to when I go to do a 6.8SPC build.

I was able to find a pic. that shows it pre-drilled. Any one know the torque spec? Thanks for the help.

150 foot pounds for the extension.  Pin hole and feedramps are milled and drilled when the extension is made, keeps them in line.  Once the extension is spun on to proper torque and headspaces within spec, then the gas hole is drilled in line with the extension pin.

Thanks  Do you know how long the barrel stub is from the shoulder to the end of barrel (chamber).  I know the thread is .8125"-16UNF thread. Just need to know how long.
