Will a barrel with a 1:7 twist wear faster than a 1:9?

NO

So the ammo-oracle is wrong?

1:9 is best.
Why?  Flexibility.  It doesn't seem to have any problems throwing M856 tracers around, unless it gets really cold, it wears better than 1:7 and it stabilizes more rounds than 1:12.  Additionally, 1:9 rifles, even Mil-Spec chrome chambered and barreled, can attain 1.0-2.0 MOA out to 300+ meters.

What round do you want your AR15 to shoot?

IF you want your rifle to shoot tight groups using the heavier weighted rounds then pick one w/ the 1/7 twist.

IF you want your rifle to shoot 55grn M193 and 62grn M855 then stick w/ a 1/9 twist.

The wear issue is a non-issue IMO and there have been plenty of threads debating this 1/7 twist wearing out quicker than the 1/9 twist....

I ain't buying into any of it and am of the opinion that the "hot-ness" of my loads/reloads will have far more to do with how many rounds I can put through the bore before it's toasted, than the twist.

YMMV,
Mike

Oh yeah, I've definitely done my research on different loadings vs twist rates, but there doesn't seem to be much evidence out there about overall wear, save for the "hotter loads = faster throat errosion" thing, which applies to all twist rates...

I remember when that was the wide spread belief here 4 or 5 years ago.

I would guess throat erosion would be a bigger concern than "Barrel Wear".  And throat erosion doesn't have anything to do with twist rate.

Shoot the damn gun and don't worry about it.  AR's are modular, you can buy more barrels, or uppers or whatever.  You probably won't ever wear it out.

In my experience the 1/7 does wear out faster than the 1/9.
In my M16s I get 12-15K rounds through a 1/7 barrel before it starts to open up beyond 4 moa. 1/9 barrels, on the other hand have always lasted past 20k and one was still accurate at 25k.
My $.02,
