I have a 14.5" barrel that I just bought a new FS for it.  I removed the old FS and I am trying to get the 16" minimum length.  Is it OK to just put an empty cartridge in the chamber then take a 16" rod and stick it down the barrel to check for length?

I guess what Im asking is what is the best way to find the end of the barrel when you still have the upper attached?

thanks

Barrel length is measured from the bolt face.  A spent cartridge will add a 1/4" or more to your measurement.
