Just got the following e-mail from SG:

Dear Friend and Customer,

Our vendor is having problems with item 51729 300 RNDS .223 55GR FMJ and has
no estimated arrival date.  We have found another source for this item which
we are offering as an alternate.  It is not identical to the item you
ordered but is the closest we could find.

Alternate Features:

Item 78127  500 RDS. 223 55GR FMJ is made in Russia.  It is steel cased,
Berdan primed, non- reloadable, and non-corrosive.  Muzzle velocity is 3,241
F.P.S. with Muzzle Energy of 1,283 ft./lbs.

Differences:

Original item 51729 comes in a quantity of 300 rounds.  It is made in South
Africa, and is brass cased.  Muzzle velocity is 3,250 F.P.S. with Muzzle
Energy of 1,290 ft./lbs.

Please let us know if you would like the alternate 78127, or if you prefer
to cancel.  We can be reached at 1-800-882-2945 between 7:00am and 5:00pm
central time or feel free to e-mail us.  Thank you.

Best regards,
Customer Service Operations

I can't find 78127, but it sounds like Wolf or Barnaul to me. On the other hand, if I interpret this correctly, I would get 500 rounds of the Russkie ammo for every 300 round battlepack I ordered. That's not a bad price, but it's definitely not M193 either.

Edited to add:

I just spoke to them on the phone. The customer service lady said that my order for 2 of the 600 round battlepacks could be exchanged for 2 of the 500 round Russkie ammo.

[>Q]

What a bum deal. Guess I'll have to cancel unless someone hears something new...

I have 5 of the 600 round battle packs ordered and got the same email. This stinks!

Showoff! You beat my post by only a few minutes....

I just called them (had 1200 rounds ordered) and they said it would be in @ october 16th.   She said she didn't know anything about the ammo specifically, but that my order should come through fine.  Don't know if they're trying to get people to get bigger quantities, or maybe it's cause I joined the buyer's club with this order (and will cancel the thing if my SA isn't shipped!)

It's the same thing I was told, but since the e-mail specified an "alternate" item, she said that it was more likely than not going to be cancelled.

So you're saying it's still not coming in?  (I didn't get an email or anything else, just happened across this thread).

Well, the verdict's still out, but she made it sound like "if they offered you an alternate product, then it's probably not coming in. If you don't resond, they'll cancel the order."

I would like to know if that's the same story other people got since I know there were a bunch of us which ordered 300 and 600 round battlepacks.

I'll call again and see what i get this time.  Thanks for the reply.  Hope everybody will keep each other posted on this.  I got a few buddies to order 1200 rounds apiece so they'd quit mooching off of me, so hope this stuff comes through.

I keep seeing Troy and new-arguy saying the SA isn't worth the money anymore because you can get new M193 but I can't get anyone to show me where you can get it for less than .15 cents a round like the SA.

Please advise....

I'll put it this way, if mine they can't ship mine, I'm gonna ask them if they still have the tubs, and if they do, I'm gonna ask them why they don't break open some of the tubs to fill some of the early orders (got mine in real early). Don't like where this is going....

Yup. That's what I said in the same thread over in the other forum. Someone there mentioned that they haven't cancelled the 2700 rd. tubs. Sound to me like they figured they could make more money by cancelling the $0.12/round 300- and 600 round battlepacks, and sending out the $0.15/round 2700 round tubs. [pissed]

I've got some 2700 round tubs ordered.  Called and asked if there was any problem with the order being filled.  They said No, still planning on shipping them to me whenever they come in.  I'll post if anything changes on it...  hth  MournSword

I just talked to SG about the substitute ammunition. She said that it is not Wolf but is surplus Russian military ammo. Any idea what it might be? Still sounds like Wolf. Why would the Russians have 5.56 surplus ammo anyway? The only plus I see would be that I would get 5000 rounds instead of 3000.
Link Posted: 9/11/2003 8:50:54 AM EDT
[#16]
I don't see how it could be Russian military surplus, since Russia's military doesn't use 5.56...

To my knowledge, the only .223 made in Russia is made for export/sporting use.

I also seriously doubt that the ammo has a velocity of 3,241fps. Probably more like 2,900fpr from a 20" bbl...

I like wolf for plinking because it's cheap, but I hate the fact that it's not loaded as hot as mil-surp. I miss the extra little bit of 'shove' that mil-surp has. [:(]

Got this today

Thank you for the e-mail.  We have no guarantee our shipment of the
51762
KIT FOR: 600 RNDS .223 55GR FMJ will arrive.  Therefore we are offering
an
alternate.  You should have received an e-mail in regards to this offer
on
9-10-03.  Please let us know if you want to take advantage of this
offer or
if you prefer to wait.  Again, we can make no guarantee in regards to
availability or provide an approximate shipping date.  Thank you.

Best regards,
Customer Service Operations

I emailed them and ask whether or not the tubs are still available.  If they tell me yes the proverbial stuff is going to hit the fan.  I am a buyer for my company and don't like getting jacked around on stuff like this.  Sounds like the old "bait and switch" to me.

Well got this today, so looks like they're not trying to yank me around....  Oh well

Thank you for the e-mail.  I checked with our Product Specialists and
unfortunately, we do not have the 2700 round tubs of South African
ammunition you inquired about.  At this time we do not have another
alternate item to offer for the 51762 KIT FOR: 600 RNDS .223 55GR FMJ.
We
apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you.  Your current order
will
remain on back order until our shipment arrives.  If you prefer to
cancel,
please let us know.  Thank you.

Best regards,
Customer Service Operations
