Anyone shoot 77 grain bullets out of their Bushmaster Varminter?  Just wondering how the 1 in 9 barell performs.

It is ok at 100yrds.  Lighter bullets are way better.  I use 69gr with pretty good results but the 50-55 grain work better.  At least I shoot the lighter loads better.

The most accurate in my rifle are the WWB 45grainers.  Lucky me, they are cheap as hell!  But I'd like to strech it out to 500 yards this weekend.  I was thinking about the Federal GMM?

I shot some of the Federal Power Shok 50 grain JHPs and they went into 1/2" @ 100 yards.
68 gr Black Hills is good as well, but costs more, a LOT more.

Every gun, every barrel is different, the rounds mine loves are a LOT cheaper than the 77's.
BTW, I haven't even bothered to try the 77's. No reason for me. The Federal 50's and the WWB 45's are killer diller......... and cheap!

If the Varminter doesn't love the 77's then get the Perditor, maybe an inch faster will do what you want. A lot od 1/9's do fine with them.

Good Luck
Bill

I have the varmint special (stainless steel barrel) which is also a 24" 1in9 twist.

for whatever reason, my rifle shoots the heavy 77gr bullets the best.  dime sized groups at 100 yards.  anything lighter opens up to about the size of a quarter.

My Varminter just loves the 55gr Winchester SilverTips.
Never shot the 77gr but Hornady 75gr TAP was 3/4MOA at 200 yards, the same afternoon (30 minutes later, same shooter) the 55gr Winchester was under 1/2 MOA.
