Does anyone have one?I planned on getting a 16" A3 with a heavy barrel.I saw the superlights and wondered if that would be a better choice. The rifle will be used for short range plinking(100 yards max)with plans to get an Eotech at some point. Thanks!

I love mine, I will take the loss of weight over increased cooling anyday.

I just got mine last week, I'll be mounting it to a flattop.

DEFINATELY a better choice for a carbine than the HBAR - most especially for a 100y & under plinker.

BTW Mine will also be sporting an EO Tech 552 (or my Compact ACOG for those times I want the magnification).

Mine arrives next Monday.

I have had all the extra heavy weight barrels I'm ever going to buy.

I built the wife a shorty using a Bushy 16" lightweight bbl. and topped it with an aimpoint. Talk about one quick handling kick butt shooting little rifle [:D]

I recently got two superlightweight uppers from Bushmaster and now I want all my HBARs turned down.  I think this type of barrel is ideal for a short range plinker.

Am I right in thinking that the Superlight barrel will not accept gas blocks designed for .750 barrels, such as the Bushmaster 3rail blok?

The barrel diameter looks small at the gas block.

I love my pencil barrel.

Menehune:

"Diameter tapers from .670 inches at the chamber end to .600, then steps up to .625 at the sight base, and tapers to .570 from the sight base to the the muzzle"

http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/barrel-assemblies/abbl-16sla.asp

As I read that, it's .625" under the gas block.

Anyone have weight data on the superlight barrel vs. the 16" dissapator barrel (with M4 profile)?

If the SLW is considered a 16" A1 config, then it's 2.0lbs and the 16" M4 is 2.2 lbs.

I believe bushmaster has said 1.7 for the superlight. However I don't think they include the muzzle break. So if it's post ban 1.7 and pre ban might be 1.9 for the super light.

Also consider that the M4D is a dissipator so automatically has extra weight due to the extra gas block and extra weight due to the long heavy handgards over a std M4 pattern.

They wish it was 1.7lbs.  I weighed mine as soon as I got it.

Without handguards (but with the delta ring & associate parts) it weighed in at 1 pound 15 ounces.  I'd say that is 1.9 lbs.

Sweet shorty triangular handguards.  How much of a hassle were they to install?  I have the Hay River rear cap & plan on setting up a lightweight carbine pretty much just like yours.

they were easy....remove the front sight tower...replace the existing handguard with the triangular one and put the front sight back on...simple as that...

If only they made it in 14.5" + Phantom/Vortex...

they sure look handy.  I wonder how they would hold up with a lot of full auto fire as compared to a standard or heavy barrel.....

I've measured 6.5 lbs from an M4w/AK brake and an A1/C7 upper. No mag, no sling. Std A2 buttstock.

That's fairly light.

RiffRandall ... do you have contact info for Hay River??  I had someone looking for it a while back and if I can find his E-Mail address I'd like to pass it on to him

They're very accurate at 100yds! I shoot out to 225 yards without hesitation. You'll be very happy with it.

Love it.

I'll take LW over HBAR bbl's any day, especially when additional accessories will be adding weight.

And it shoots great.

From this point on, I doubt I'll have a heavy contour bbl except for a special purpose rifle.

Get it and love it.
