Has anyone here ever gotten a reply from Ares about their GSR-35 Black Lightning™ (Gas System Retrofit)

Months back I sent multiple emails & left a phone message & heard nada!

Shure I know it's beating a dead horse but this one is worth beating! I see their site is still up.

Flame on!

I talked to them about a month ago, they said that they had plenty in stock, but they were in M16 configuration and wouldn't sell them to me without a registered machinegun. I'm no expert, but while I understand that companies don't want to sell M16 parts to AR15 owners, but I've never heard of a company refusing to sell a M16 carrier, hell plenty of people use them in their AR's for the extra mass. It's my opinion that they just weren't able to produce a reliable system that would be "drop in". I talked to one of my dealers who will remain anonymous about this and he said that he was promised a shipment about 3 months ago, but can't even get in touch with them now, and he is a high volume AR dealer. If I were to spend the money and wanted to use pretty standard parts on my weapon, I would opt for the L-W system, but that's just my $.02

For a company that has "plenty in stock", it seems that they don't want any sales because if they were available we would have heard the praise or gripes about them.

For their "stock" I call

I and the Class 3 dealer that I do business with have experience far too many Red-Flag situations with ARES.  I urge everybody be very cautious when dealing with ARES; do not send them any money up-front.

My personal policy with ARES is I will buy their product when I have it in hand at a gun shop.  All of ARES product hype has yet to turn into any tangible, in-hand, products.

I don't know how many people still have Shrike deposits, but I can't imagine anything good would happen if everyone asked for their deposit back at the same time.

It is just totally mind boggling how this company can promise a product not once, but TWICE, the second time after taking years of shit, and not deliver.   Pics of rows and rows of parts months ago, and the now cliched "it'll be another 3 weeks", and then nothing.  Who funds this shit?  Where do they get the money to build a table full of funky one-off bolt carriers?

How much you want to bet that if you call them asking for an M16 configuration, all they'll have in stock are AR15 models.

I'm okay with cutting people slack when they do something new, but these guys obviously have some issues that their customers are suffering for. I wish them the best of luck, but I sure wouldn't send any of my friends to them.

When I got my Shrike deposit back (after waiting a couple of years) I was impressed to get a small sized check with perfs on the top edge, as torn out of a checkbook somebody might have in their purse.  The hand-written check was good and did not bounce, but I certainly was impressed with it.  The check looked like something produced by an operation run from a trailer beside the road somewhere instead of a big-league technical development company.

I wouldn't send these people any money again for anything and was happy to get that deposit back.

I wanna believe! I want one too! I even have money to pay for it! I just would be nice to get a reply back from the emails I sent or a return phone call...

Relax man. Pretty sure it was a joke. The clue was the reference to Wolf 75gr Tactical Gold which last I heard was vaporware too. If on the other hand DevL was serious then you could take it to the bank as he not some fly-by-night newbie who needs to BS about shit like that.

Wow! Not Wolf too... I had a order for that stuff!  It looks like the vaporware market is really taking off!

I still  would like to see some pics & get some detail on the Ares kit! God knows the compant won't tell you anything!

Even while riding the unicorn both the ARES piston upper and Shrike produce 1 MOA groups with Wolf Gold 75 grain... on full auto no less.

Im working on a system similar to the ARES deal, true drop in, no need to remove the front sight.

Its different enough from theres to not get patent infringement.

Im working on the prototype CAD drawings as we speak :)

Its gonna be aluminum/steel, be 100% removeable w/no permanent mods, and able to be used on any length/diameter barrel.

We're shooting for a price of $300-350.00

Ill keep everyone informed once I get the copyright/patent papers started (if my attorney ever gets off his ass)

Im also gonna have 2-3 systems Im gonna loan out for testing to various members here, I wanna have 1-2000 rds a week run thru them until they fail or weaknesses are uncovered.

You got my attention.hanks...
Once I get the design working and its tweeked 100%, I'll do a production run of 25 units to guage interest.

Im sick of seeing these $975+ piston uppers that don't do anything a regular AR wont, except stay clean hahahaha.

Oh yah, we're working on a way to use the original gas key too, without shearing it or TIGing it on. Might have to send your BC in for retro, or do an exchange...

More will be revealed in due time. I dont think this is gonna revolutionize the industry or anything but Im hoping they will at least work :)

Thanks... we just started this project full fledged last week, and I lead a "normal" life, so gimme some time, the drawings are all done, now its a matter of getting the $$$ put together to get 2 prototypes ran.

you sir are incorrect...

it most certainly will revolutionize the industry.

if this can be done as you say (reliable even under FA conditions) you will be a definate thorn in the side of $1000 piston upper mfg.s everywhere.

I wish you the best of luck.

JP,
What's your thoughts about threading the gas key and screwing a rod into it and running it thru the hole for the gas tube to a gas expansion chamber that has a piston in it that will smack the rod when the gas hits it. Just a thought. I had a friend who made this mod about 15 years ago in his shop (garage). Worked with 556 and 9mm.

That would definitely work :)

Not the way I wanna do it, but would work. You'd have to pull the piston head every time to get the bolt carrier out.

Of course, you could also put a spring on the piston and get rid of the buffer/tube that way also (like an OA-93)

Im trying to make something thats as simple as can be, and super cheap. If I can sell them for $100 I will!

Talked to MGI today and they are trying to develop a drop-in design. Hopefully they will have it out by the end of the year according to the guy I talked to.

Member here "twl" has mentioned it in a thread awhile back.

Whoever comes up with a true drop-in piston design will be rolling in the $$$. Even many of those who poo-poo the piston idea would probably give it a whirl if the price was right and it didn't permanently alter their weapons.

However, as L-W found out, the variances in FSB cant would complicate any drop-in system. The shit would need to be almost perfectly inline to work (over the long run). And any such system would also probably require some sort of modified bolt carrier. These things we already know, so I'm sure developers are well aware.
