Is there any reason a pre-ban Ar-15 is worth any more than a post ban?  My dad has a new, never fired preban Colt HBAR that he wants to get rid of.  What's the difference between what he has, and a post ban AR15?  Also, what would be a reasonable price to sell it for?

Only to those in ban states like New York. You might get a bit of a premium there, but otherwise it's just an AR like any other.

Depends on the type of Colt it is.Up here my buddy just bought a pre-ban Bushmaster for $1500 with 10 magazines and 300 rounds of ammo.Would have been $1300 without the mags and ammo.So basicaly he paid $800 2 1/2 times more than what it would have cost if he went post ban for a complete carbine lower and it has the old crappy Bushmaster telestock and old lock ring and tube.

I belive it's the Colt HBAR Match Target, but it could be the sportster model.  It is a HBAR though.

Match Target rifles are a post ban model. They lack the bayonet lug and the flash suppressor.

However the Sporter Match HBAR and Sporter Target models are preban. They lack the bayonet lug but have the flash suppressor. The two "Target" models have the govt profile barrels while the HBAR models have the full diameter barrels.

As said, in states like New York, and a couple more in the northeast I believe, still have an AWB that allows preban rifles and you'll get more from the rifle than if you sell it locally in Utah which has no state ban.
