ok, i finally completed buying all the parts for my complete lower. now i need to find a complete upper or build one. what should i do, here are some ideas that i found for under $500. along with what my lower is
Spikes stripped lower $101 shipped
DPMS LPK $55 shipped
UTG stock $57 shipped

Here are some websites i found with a couple uppers i am looking at, feel fre to comment and help me out as to what i should do.
Stag complete upper $470
Armalite complete upper $465
DSA upper, needs BCG+CH $275

I found this out, i caould make a pretty good upper with these parts for about $425 after shipping, what do you think?
Bolt Carrier group, mil spec $100
Spikes Tactical Charging handle $23
DSA upper Nitrite $275

Bravo Company has LMT and BCM uppers in stock for below $500.

That is of course minus charghing handle and BCG

I have ta stag and Armalite both. Both are good uppers. The Stag comes with a BUIS and side sling attachment if you shop around, so its the better value. The Armalite was only $368.00 when they first came out.

If not, you can get a matech off of Gunbroker for less than $50. The Army uses them and it will serve you well as a sight until you can get an optic.

I just did a quick check of gunbroker, searching under "ar15 upper" and found an "Armalite AR15 Upper Half 5.56mm 16" M4 Profile" 1:9 twist for a buy now price of $498. See here.

Or how about a " Rock River A4 Mid complete upper 223 5.56 ar15 " 1:9 twist for $550? See here.

Or for more, check out the "Sabre Defense M5 upper 5.56 40124 16" CL NIB" 1:7 twist for $664. See here.

These all include the bolt carrier group. Not all include rear sites. Get an LMT BUIS for around $95 and you're good to go.

I wouldn't worry about a carrying handle. Took mine off 15 years and its been in storage since. That'll save some pennies. Having dealt with Stag and armalite, I'd pick Stag hands down. If you like playing your odds with armalite sending you an upper with rusting chips of steel imbedded in it then go for it.....oh, and having a customer service and his supervisor telling you it's normal AKA customer go pound sand.

Go with a company with solid support.

I like my DSA upper and recommend them. With the price of BCG's really coming down lately and $20 CH you should be able to keep it under $500.

Increase your budget and go with a BCM complete upper. You'll be glad you did.

I don't think you'd go wrong with any of those three routes. Personally I'd spend a little extra though and get a better BCG and get a BCM if you go with the last option.

I had a Stag and it was a great rifles, so I highly recommend Stag. Also like Armalite and have thought about getting one of these. I love these to, but I think youll be extremely happy if you wait and get the BCM upper, bcg, and CH.

I have a couple of Stags (among others) and highly recommend them, problem free, acurate, and reliable. Try Pete at Legal Transfers in NH if
you are looking for anyhting Stag (or RRA), great prices, knowledgable, and he usually has what you want ot can get it pretty quickly....<><....:)

P.S. - he advertises here in the "New Lowers" section of the EE...

I recently ordered a complete upper from Del-Ton for under $500..It has the CAR handguard,16" heavy CL 1/9 twist barrel and BCG..Ordered on a Monday and it was here on Friday..The reason they were so quick is because of back orders on mid-length & govt profile barrels and these were in stock..Very satisfied with what I got...

Instead of having a box marked Stag, Armalight, DSA waiting on your porch wouldn't you rather it read BCM?
If no, then proceed to step two...

PK Firearms built Bushmaster 14.5" upper assembly with pinned FH, bolt & carrier, and charging handle: $535

I've bought several of these for various builds for myself and friends from PK Firearms and have had good luck with them.

Absolutely. Any upper from them, not just the Bushmaster, will serve you well. PK is good people.

I got THIS ONE from PK a couple of weeks ago for my first AR build. I love it and the service from PK is excellent. All you will need is a rear sight, mags and ammo.

Wait one more month and you won't have to cheap out on anything. Seriously; if you drop money on "sorta, kinda" and "close enough", you'll never get any of it back, but if you do it right the first time you'll have a nice tool for life. We're talking about a $130 difference, for the most part.

If you can't make up a $130 difference, then:

(1) you'll never be able to shoot the damn thing anyways, because you can't afford to

or

(2) you just want it to fiddlefuck with it and show it off to your friends - but you're still broke enough that you have bigger problems than trying to find a shiny new toy

...

This is how people find themselves dead broke and surrounded by piles of CRAP that either doesn't work or never gets used.

DSA or DD upper from PK $495

Obviously BCM would be better but if you don't want to save or simply have it in your head that your goal is to build an inexpensive rifle then go with one of my above options.

I thought I remembered you saying you plan to shoot alot of .22, correct? The 1/9 will be a little more accurate so go DSA($275+$100+$20)

If you haven't already bought that UTG stock for $57... DONT! Buy this along with your DSA upper M4 stock @ DSA $50
