Want to mount comp M2 on my flat-top. Looking at LaRue quick detach mount - nice, but at $115 seems a bit pricey.

I noticed that you can get an Aimpoint own brand mount for just over $20 (not quick detach). Any pros and cons that I should be aware of with these (strength, accuracy issues etc)

I think it would be fine for almost any user, save the uber-tactical dude of almost mystical tacticalness.

Here's a good deal on one.

I found an Aimpoint quick detach mount w/spacer on ebay last year for $60. It was used, (and still is) I suspect it was military at some point as it has a scratched out number, but it works and holds zero. If you can stomach dealing with ebay check them out.

The $20 ring from Aimpoint will set too low on your flat-top, and I would not recomend the QRP with space from Aimpoint either, the large knob tends to snagg on everything.

i use the rail-grabber with the spacer. its a good mount and for $60 i cant get too excitied about spending $100+ on a larue or arms etc. the only gripe i would have is that the knob protrudes pretty far from the mount but that makes it easy to remove in a hurry. and it always returns to zero.

You spent at least $800 on a rifle.

Another $400 for an optic.

And you're complaining about a $116 mount that is arguably the BEST IN THE WORLD?

If you're going to cheap out at LEAST buy a QRP.  It's the one that is issued, you can usually find them in the EE for around $50.  Not the quality of the LaRue, but at least they mount the optic at the right height and have a respectable return to zero.

Thanks for the input. I didnpt like the look of the Aimpoint QD mount with that long knob sticking out. As for spending big money - well, if I must, but my view is if I can get an acceptable system for $30, then why pay $115. Seems like the Aimpoint is too low anyway.

$115 for a simple one ring mount does hurt though - kind of like paying $50 for a burger and fries - but, if I must......

P.S.
I wonder if Leupold or Burris have a high 30mm ring that would work ?

I have a QRP on my A1 I like it!
But if it was a Flat top I would get a cantilever of some type proven

I used an Aimpoint QRP mount for years. It is a fine mount for the money. That being said, if you can afford the couple of extra bucks the LaRue beats it hands down.

Using a QRP myself, but only because it came with the optic.  Seems to have a decent return-to-zero, but I'm not fond of the knob sticking out.  The LaRue looks very nice.  A friend has an ARMS, looks nice but I think he got a lemon - no RTZ and it wiggles.

Check the EE; you can find decent mounts available from time to time, and this isn't the place to cheap out on your rifle.  Bad mount = imprecise scope mounting = imprecise shot placement.

I think I'll just bite the bullet and run with a LaRue from grant, may as well get tit right first time (I've had bad experiences with regular mounts, so I know there are pitfalls.

Grant's site was sold out, so I ordered a Larue direct from the company. If I like this one I may buy more.

Well, my new LaRue mount arrived today. It may have cost a lot, but it is a great product. Well designed, and well manufactured. LaRue were great to deal with too.

I have it mounted already

I wonder how strong these things are - anyone dropped their rifle and have it land Aimpoint down ?
