I have become rather satisfied with 5.56 for my area which has a mixture of heavy timber and large open fields. I have had an M14 for years and I love that rifle but I have never liked them with optics mounted on them.  So I have decided to build or buy an AR-10.  I looked at the S&W M&P-10 and the camouflage hunting version.  I herd S&W doesn't sell parts and I don't like that.  Also the Camo M&P-10 was very heavy. What I have decided is I want a lightweight barrel so I can easily carry the rifle in the field.

So here is what I am thinking:

Fulton Armoury light contour 18" barrel
Palmetto State upper and lower
Geissele G2s trigger group
Vltor fixed stock A1 length
round midlength handgaurds
M16A1 pistol grip or tango down grip.

Any advice on BCG?  I want to keep this rifle fairly cheap but I don't have any problem spending decent money on a barrel.  But I want it to have as many "standard" parts as I can get.  I am assuming the DPMS parts are the most common?  Only thing I dont like is the look of there upper and lower.

thanks
