Just curious if there is any value to LEO marked AR-15 lowers now.  I sold my Colt LEO lower right after the ban lifted for a tidy sum, but I don't see them much anymore.  I have an older RRA lower marked LEO and have a couple friends pestering me to sell it.  Is there really much of a demand for these items still?

Please explain - what is the basis for your response?  I only ask because a fellow (whom I think is a yahoo) at a local gunshop recently told me that he couldn't sell me either a particular lower OR THE BARRELED UPPER THAT CAME OFF OF IT  because it was marked"LEO-only", and I was thinking he was full of BS, Thanks.

CDI factor, collector value, thinking that it might have some kind of special go fast magical ingredients in the alloy.
Kind of like the eagle and star stamp or having somebody put "US Property" on your rifle.
No practical or functional value, but if it is something that increases the perceived value to you or to someone you want to sell it to, that's all it takes.
It may have some value depending on the legal climate.
And to just the right PoPo who knows just enough to be dangerous, it might get you some extra scrutiny.

Restricted marked lowers are as of September 13, 2004 no longer restricted, so yes the guy at the gun shop is definitely a yahoo.
As to the value of a restricted marked lower I don't know.  I bought a Bushmaster in the EE that had a restricted marked lower.  I didn't pay a premium for it, but at the same time I would not want to part with it either.
I think there is a definite cool factor with a restricted marked lower, because you are legally holding something that for ten years was as illegal and supposedly as dangerous as an unregistered machinegun.
I am not trying to play soldier nor am I a wannabe cop, I just think its neat that I can now legally own something that was supposedly so dangerous that it had to be marked as a restricted item to keep it out of the hands of us lowly civillians.

He is full of BS.  There is no restriction on the LEO marked items anymore.  That restriction went away with the AWB.  he

If it's a brand new LEO only rifle, that just means it probably hasn't had excise tax paid.  Pay the Federal excise tax and you can buy the whole rifle.  If the dealer wants to part it out and sell it in peices, he can ignore the FET.

As to perceived value?  To some people it's a big bonus that they're willing to pay extra for...  to others, they don't want the appearance of impropriety and stay away from them, to others, they just don't care and wouldn't pay extra.

The FET is waived only if the sale is directly to a department or agency. If the rifle goes into the normal distribution channels, it has the FET paid. Now, if the rifle went to a department, and then got sold to a distributor, someone has to pay the FET. My bet would be the Distributor, so the FET is already paid by the time it hits that yahoos gunshop.

In any case, he doen't know what he knows, and you're probalby better off steering clear of him.

Umm... FFLs can obtain LE only non-FET paid firearms.  And LE individual purchases for official use on department letterhead are exempt.  At least that's how a LE-only firearms dealer in my area operates.  I've had a number of officers come to my store selling their used blue box Glocks.  From what I understand, the FET doesn't apply to police trade-ins.

Admittedly, I haven't dealt with much LE or FET transfers... but that's how they're handled by our competitors...
