upper or lower?

personal preference on either but there are other choices that are much less for about the same quality if not better

eta: just noticed you are in cali so im guessing you meant upper. go with cmt much cheaper, easier to find.

Both upper and lowers would be a bit pricey, but otherwise good to go.

For lowers, I'd go with Stag, regardless of the corney deer head roll mark and I'd go with CMT upper receivers. Both are CMT, BTW, both are top notch and both are used by all the major manufacturers out there, just a different logo.

With Stag/CMT, you are essentially getting Colt quality without the Colt logo (and price premium) on both upper and lower, since CMT does provide Colt with both.

I'm talking about lowers and I'm less concerned with a fractional difference in price than in the overall quality/durability.

+1. I see several Kalifornians looking to buy Stag DSA etc becuase they aren't marked AR15? But LMT does make nice stuff. You can also buy a Lauer Custom Weaponry lower cheaper and they are built by LMT ( from my understanding). They are nice lowers with a nice roll mark.

<---look over there for what state I reside in

I won't say who it belongs to, but last weekend, I drove home with 2 of my friends from a dealer with an LMT receiver in the trunk that was not in the trunk when we got to the dealer's place.
There might have been 10 CMMG lowers as well
The LMT receiver is on-par with the stags and CMMG's and I think it's nicer than the Rock Rivers he had as well.

Well good for you guys!!!! Glad to hear you may be able to get a few more items in before they slam your nuts in the door.

The funny thing about the Cali deal is that, to be able to have a "real" rifle and not a frankencarbine with no "features", one pretty much has to have the AG slam the door and list it. I like how it kinda uses the system against itself a little bit.

So, if you guys can squeek in there with the non listed lowers can you build them into pre ban /no ban status AR15's with all the EVIL featuers?

Not right away.
Adding features to a stripped receiver constitutes "manufacturing an assault weapon" under or SB23 "features" law.
SB23 is a list of features that would force a gun to become an assault weapon.
The law that allows us to manufacture and register an assault weapon had a cutoff date back in 2000.
Now, once the attorney general adds the receivers 'by make and model' to the list of banned models, THEN we have to register them.
When they add new models to the list, they are required to open up the registry again for 90 days to allow the added models to be added to the registry.
Once the receiver is a registered assault weapon, it's exempt of SB23 because it's already an assault weapon and you can't make something MORE of an assault weapon than the assault weapon it already is.
After it's registered, we can have all the nasty features.

Randall you are a fast one on the responses!!! I hope you guys stock up on them like a MOFO! Are you guys finding FFL's that are willing to do the transfers for you? I noticed someone did and was hogging the info???

Getting the receivers here is the problem.
The DOJ called all the makers and larger distributors and asked them NOT to ship any receivers here, even though it was legal because they (DOJ) need the time to properly ammend the list of banned models.
The way receivers ARE getting here is from dealer to dealer.
There's nothing stopping the flow of receivers right now besides the small number of dealers that are willing to play ball.

That's kinda backhanded of the DOJ.
