Hi everyone new to the forum. I ordered my first AR-15 2 weeks ago and my question is the rifle that I ordered is a RRA 16" 1-9 twist ,what is the best grain bullet to shoot to gain the best groups. I have heard that 62gr is what shoots best with the 1-9 twist. Need to order the ammo so when the rifle arrives (dealer says RRA said 30-60 days ) i'll be ready to shoot.

match ammo will probably give you tightest groups. maybe A-max tipped round from Hornady.

find a brand/bullet weight that works best for your rifle. Saying "62 gr will work best" is too big a generalization.

Black Hills makes relatively inexpensive, high quality match rounds. You'll also find Match ammo from Hornady and Federal. Win/Rem make them, but they're less common on shelves.

Check out the following link for a discussion of twist rate and bullet length/weight:

Every barrel is different, try several types of ammo and see what your barrel prefers for accuracy. For just blasting, try some Winchester White Box (aka WWB). You should also read:

Finally, I have a 16" 1/9 twist bushmaster. it shoots 1.5 to 2MOA out to 300 yards with ammo ranging from 55 grain to 75 grain with no perceptible difference in accuracy. YMMV
