Hey, I was wondering how American Eagle .223 stackts up to my SA surplus in terms of muzzle velocity out of a bushmaster 14.5 bore, or any size bore, just to get a general idea of how hot the round is.

It cycled in my bushy just fine, I just wanted to know a bit more about the ammo, in terms of ballistic performance and MV.

Thanks,
Scott

It runs a little slower than SA surplus, but it's good plinking ammo.  Don't bother to save the brass.  When I got my first AR, I put 500 rounds of the American Eagle through it without a hiccup.

I have settled down to AE 223/55 and XM-193 ammo. Have put around 2,000 rds of AE 223 thru my DPMS A2 Classic without any issues.

Don't have chrono on it, but I estimate it's about 8%-10% cooler than XM-193.

I find it consistent in quality, and I can paint out the center of a 12" Shoot-n-see with irons at 100 meters with it...good enough for my purposes.

I have chrono it at an average of 2749 with the highest at 2800.  California 75 degree at almost sea level.

Federal Eagle .223 was 2847 +/- 23 fps from my M4 Carbine (14.5" bbl).

This compares to genuine issued M193 Ball (WCC 78) of 2998 +/- 25 fps.

Call Federal 150fps slower from this barrel length.

(30 round samples corrected to the muzzle and standard day).
