What are the downsides or upsides to an aluminum CAR buttstock? Do they have rattle problems? What about weight?

I had one, didn't care for it. Rattled, paint chiped off, unconfortable in cold weather (freezing cold cheek weld) and yes, weighed a little more.

Cold weather use (putting your cheek against one in sub freezing weather).

Early ones had a tendancy to shatter when struck hard (be careful when doing doing the extream clearing drill).

Never desired an aluminum stock for a carbine after learning the pitfalls of metal surfaces with my aluminum freefloat tube.

HOT in the summer sun and COLD in the winter.    Hence the reason why I paracord wrapped my aluminum handguards 4-5 years ago, didn't take me long to figure it out.

OK. I guess its not such a good thing after all. Thanks for the input.
