I got a cqb sling plate and forgot that I dont have a stock wrench to remove the nut. Is there a good alternative tool that can be had at a hardware store or something else that can be used to get it off and retighten it when done?

no, get the m4 stock wrench if you have a newer style lock ring.

So nobody has ever improvised with a wrench of any sort?

Thanks.....I might also check out sears or something and see if they have a wrench like my dad has that takes off clamps or something. Its got a round jaws and has little knobs that just might work too. I forget what they are called but as a last resort Ill use the hammer thing. ALso might just take it to the gun shop and ask if I can use there wrench quick for $5

Just buy the wrench, the're under $10.  Otherwise you'll be buying a new nut and the wrench after you trash the existing nut getting it off with a screwdriver and hammer or a pair of adjustable pliers.

I just learned that the RRA wrench like this one only works on M4 stocks with the 4 notches equidistant around the castle nut (and will NOT work with CAR stocks at all).

I still have to keep two different stock wrenches in my toolbox (one of these too):

The RRA cost me about 7 bucks, and the DPMS CAR one cost me about 5 bucks.  They're simple to use and about every AR place online has them.  Teknic at Rainier Arms had the RRA one to me in about three days.  I'd just order one and wait if I were you.

I tried a few hits with a punch and hammer but then said its not worth it and got the wrench and a few other goodies from bravo company usa.  Thanks for the ideas though
