I made a deal with myself back in November: "Besides the magazine group buy, I can't spend anymore money on my rifle until after Christmas!"
Now I'm wondering what I should look into upgrading next.

My current KISS

Things I've considered are:
Magpul CTR
Magpul MIAD
S.P.O.T. Red Dot
Smith Vortex FH
AR-15 wrench
Front sight tool
1000rnds 55gr PSP

Any suggestions on where to start or maybe other ideas?
I'll be building a 20" SS FFHG upper at a later date...

Keep it a KISS rifle and start a new build now.

Get a good sling first, then more mags and ammo and the MIAD if you have extra $.

Then, get some tools and build that next one with an optic.

Things I've considered are:
Magpul CTR Don't need
Magpul MIAD Good Grip, I'd get a Ergo grip for $25
S.P.O.T. Red Dot Maybe
Smith Vortex FH NO
AR-15 wrench Which one?
Front sight tool For what?
1000rnds 55gr PSP Absolutely+more.

I would save up for an acog on your new 20" build.

I really like the simplicity of your rifle.  I say invest your money in ammunition and some tools to start your next build.  Might I also suggest a barrel mount sling adapter and a Vickers Combat Application Sling.

Keep your carbine the way it is and invest any extra funds that you have into training.  Once you use your rifle in a class or two you will know what you NEED to do to it, if anything.

There is nothing like having someone who has made the same mistakes you may be getting ready to make looking over your shoulder and being able to correct them before you build them into your muscle memory.

After this initial training develop a rigorous self-study program and stick to it, this will help permanently wire these techniques into your muscle memory.  Continue your education through further professional training whenever the opportunity arises.

If this is your only AR...training,mags,ammo,and gear to carry the mags and your rifle..then accessorize it as needed and then build a new rifle.you could always use that flat top upper with that carbine and keep the A2 upper and stock for a nice 20" govt profile barrelled rifle.

+1

if you like your current setup, keep it

get the other parts you wanted to trade up and use it for another AR build--one that is a little more extravigant and differnt

if not, get mags and ammo

Thanks for all of the replies so far guys. This is my first AR so maybe I'm a bit slow on the uptake. Some of the stuff I want just because it looks good or feels good.

Things I've considered are:
Magpul CTR Don't need  <--- Like the looks of it, not a great reason :)
Magpul MIAD Good Grip, I'd get a Ergo grip for $25  <--- Like the fact that I can customize it to fit my comfort
S.P.O.T. Red Dot Maybe <--- Supposedly a decent enough Red Dot for what I would be using it for
Smith Vortex FH NO  <-- Eh, coolness factor I guess
AR-15 wrench Which one? <--- Dunno which one, one of the multi-tool ones so i can take my stock off, remove my flash hider, etc...
Front sight tool For what?  <--- So I can adjust my front sight easier
1000rnds 55gr PSP Absolutely+more.

I would save up for an acog on your new 20" build.
<--- Maybe a bit more $ than I'm wanting to spend on a single accessory, though I guess if I'm going to bother with a 20" SS free float, I might as well get a good optic, tough decision when all I'll most likely be shooting is rabbits and dirt hehe

For those suggesting I just continue with the KISS way of life, that's probably not a bad idea, I mean I love my rifle and I have a blast with it. I would probably never need anything more than what I have now. I guess just upgrading it for the coolness factor really. I would like to try out a VFG but with the M4 handguards even that upgrade would cost a bit of cash hehe

OK, if this was mine here is what I'd do.....

1. Swap the A2 upper with that flattop
2. SPOT
3. front sight tool, gotta have one of those
4. ammo
5. forget the Vortex, the phantom works almost as well save the $ for #6
6. MIAD
7. CTR

save the A2 upper and stock for the future build
