I already have a Eotech and love it, but next rifle needs something else...tell me what and why and then I can decide.

I would say that since you already have an eotech, go with the ACOG. Although, I keep saving for an ACOG, and everytime I get the money, I end up purchasing another rifle instead. When you can get a 6920 for the price of an RCO M4, its hard to drop the cash on the scope.

ETA: Almost... RCO-M4 Package deal runs roughly 1100, and I paid 1250 for my last 6920.

Best to define the desired use of the sight and the distances involved.  This will help narrow it down a bit.

Yep

W/ that said however...why not an Aimpoint w/ a 3X.

But I would actually go w/ the ACOG.

Reason being is you already have one 1X mag. red dot and if you like the EO, you may not like the Aimpoint (I'm exactly the opposite).

So I say ACOG!

I am more of a distance shooter.  I like the long shots to really feel that I can shoot well.  I am happy shooting tight groups at 100 yards, but if I can make a decent group at 400 thats where its at for me.  Just my preference.  keep em comin.   also, I don't know as much about the ACOG's as I do the aimpoint, so let me know what you have and the style and power etc.

ACOG.

Mine arrived Thursday.

For precision, I'd favor the TA01.  For general all purpose use, the TA11.

Decide on how much you want to spend first.

Both are good for the money,
as the saying goes you get what you pay for.

I have co-witnessed my irons with my Aimpoint on the other rifle.  Regarding the ACOG rifle, seeing that I have no  flip-up front post BUIS yet on the rail of the free float rails, I have not tried to co-witness, but I doubt that I can co-witness the ACOG for a couple of reasons, [magnification blurr and it sits too high above the BUIS line].  266

ETA PS   And also no room to put the rear BUIS on the back of the flat top receiver...eye relief, and all that.

if this helps, my wifes cousin is in marine force recon, 2 tours in a-stan, 6 tours in iraq, he said he prefers the eotech for close in fighting and acog for everything else. i have 2 acogs and i ask him to help me set them up, and my aimpoint. he's the man, i hope that helps

I say under 100 yards go with an unmagnified optic.  For 0-200 it's a preference thing, I think.  I'd probably opt for a 1.5 ACOG or maybe even an Accupoint.  For 25-300 .... ACOG!

The ability to shoot with both eyes open is so critical IMHO.  I'd pick a 0- "X" range and base your choice off that.

Lots of options for you.

I would take the ACOG any day over an electronic dot sight.  However if you want to fiddle fuck with brightness settings, on/off switches and batteries during a firefight -get the Aimpoint.

I have a TA31A and its the best money on glass I've ever spent.

It makes 300 yard shots on 6" steel a "no brainer"

AimPoint vs ACOG

Different optics for different roles.

And in true ARFCOM tradition, I got both.

AimPoint ML3 2moa on my 10.5" SBR.
ACOG TA31F-RCO-M4 on my RECCE.

+1 on an ACOG since you already have the EOTech.

GDS Enterprises in Austin, TX (512)707-8353 sells the TA31RCOM4 for under $1000.  Prices on all other models are also competitive.

2 tours in A-Stan and 6 in Iraq ? Is a tour still 1 year ? If so , thats 8 years . We invaded A-stan in 2001. If a tour is still a year you do the math...? Not trying to be a smart ass , just does not add up ?

Sounds like a majority are ACOG.  I already have a Eotech, so i might as well get something magnified...so, which model should I get, for say about 200 yard range.  I am sure I will shoot it at 100 but I know I will shoot it at +300.

Definitely get the ACOG!!  I had an EOtech first, and the ACOG blew it outta the water!  Mine is a TA11B.

Who has the best price on the ACOG?

ACOG...with an aimpoint you just have another sight doing what eotech does better.Cant beat the field of view on an eotech. To kappes, diferent specialized units sometimes have 6 month deployments at a time depending on what they do.

Surf the EE, there's lots of VERY reputable vendors.  For the cheapest prices, you have to find a private sale through a member with some positive feedback.

As a guy who has both, I would say ....get both... just kidding..

I based my choice on what I felt were the primary roll  for my AR. And that was from 0 meters out to 100M. I wanted fast target acquisition for multiple targets and speed. I was not looking for bench rest accuracy.

I wanted something that worked  reliably in all weather and in day and low light/no light. I wanted simplicity. A simple red "dot of Death" with no extraneous BS in my field of vision.

Based on my criteria... I chose the Aimpoint. and the beauty of it was, I could engage tgts out to 300 meters with ease.

The only reason I got the ACOG, is because I already had an Aimpoint. If I were limited to only one optic, it would be the Aimpoint. as it rules in the CQB arena and can be used out to 300meters.

While the ACOG and the BAC can be used effectively at CQB distances.... it is still not as fast and as simple as the Aimpoint.

Just my $.02

You can have both.  There is an ACOG model with 4x magnification and a reticle that compensates for bullet drop out to 600 yards and also has a red dot sight mounted on top - they call it a "Doctor".  Check it out on Trijicon's web sight.

Trijicon has the price listed around $1,600 but I saw one on Cabela's web page for around $1,200 or so.  Still pretty steep, but it looks like a good solution to the quick target aquisition close in vs. accuracy at distance dilemma.

I'd be interested to know if anybody has one before I drop over a grand for my own.
