Have a bit of extra change and am thinking of picking up either an Aimpoint PRO (do not currently have an optic) of an upper from Primary arms. ( I have a stripped Spike's lower I need to get to work on) What say you, Arfcom?
Link Posted: 12/14/2016 10:58:09 PM EST
Aimpoint. It's better to have fewer nicer things versus a bunch of half assed ones.

There is little foreseen stress on the horizon for AR parts, so you have time to buy components for additional rifles.

Aimpoint. You can only use one rifle at a time. Build a bombproof, go-to rifle how you want it, then start on your next one. I feel like I jumped around and wasted money.

Aimpoint. Finish one before you start another...

Aimpoint, best red-dot I have so far.

Link Posted: 12/15/2016 2:23:50 AM EST
Aimpoint, unless you have an astigmatism.
Link Posted: 12/15/2016 4:03:02 AM EST
Unless the upper is a BCM or similar I'd get the optic.

That said I've had many ARs and never a high end optic and my shots go where I intend them to. They're nice but not necessary for me.

Get the Aimpoint.

need optic

Thanks all! I have one more question that has come to mind. Factoring in a limited budget of around $400, are there any other recommended red dots to consider that might be on par with the PRO?
Link Posted: 12/15/2016 7:16:16 AM EST
You can get an MRO for close to $400. It's all personal preference.

Well personally with prices so low on uppers now I'd suggest picking one up.

However the Aimpoint is my second favorite optic I own and runs circles on everything but my trijicon/

The good news is with Christmas coming up there might be a killer deal again from aim or PSA on them.
Link Posted: 12/15/2016 9:29:18 AM EST
Definitely the Aimpoint

I picked up my aimpoint PRO a while back from cabela's on sale for $438...cheapest I could find...looking back, I should have bought two!

I have an astigmatism, I still prefer an aim aimpoint over anything else inside 100 yards. It's still faster than even my razor 1-6 without my contacts in which correct my vision. With the dot as a starburst, it literally makes no difference at HD distances where the 2 moa dot just becomes a little bigger. Can still put the dot at chest or head and hit exactly where you're aiming.

Every time I'm ready to buy a nice optic, I buy a gun instead.

My only optic is on my hunting rifle. Guns are more fun, and I don't "need" optics.

You should wait and get another for ~350. They go on sale often for that price at several retailers. It is also $420 on amazon right now if you really want another one.

I would definitely pick up the Aimpoint over an upper at this time. We have at least 4 years of no further federal level gun infringements to allow supply to exceed demand. It is and will remain a buyer's market for the next few years.

Aimpoint.  I have too many uppers and guns without optics.

Also, you can find used ones on the EE.  I bought one for $325.

Aimpoint. Regret getting rid of mine

Trijicon MRO?
Link Posted: 12/15/2016 2:19:26 PM EST
Aimpoint. As others stated you can only use one gun, effectively, at a time. And a red dot is super fast compared to irons.

Echoing everyone else, Aimpoint.

I don't know how many optics you may or may not have, but if you have none beware, once you start spending more $ on nicer optics, the initial sting goes away quickly with the more expensive optics once you start buying them. I don't even flinch anymore at buying an ACOG or similar, like something from Nightforce or USO

Aimpoint PRO

Aimpoint, you will not regret it. I have astigmatism and I don't have any problem using an Aimpoint.

Thanks All! Just bought the PRO along with a BCM Mod 4 CH for just a bit over $400 with shipping. Looking forward to getting it!

Get a DI Optical Raven sight, and still have a couple hundred in your pocket towards an upper. You'll never regret it.

There's a $370-ish Aimpoint PRO deal on right now somewhere. Don't remember where.

+1 for Optic. Same reasons.

Also...this. First optic was a PRO, then got a Vortex 2.5-10x, then went all the way for a Nightforce 1-4. Glass buying is closely related to BRD.

I know an aimpoint pro was purchased but comp m2 can be had in the EE from $200-$300 used sometimes including mount. I will take a used comp m2 over the pro anyday.

Why not buy a QD mount for your Aimpoint Pro? I have mine in a LaRue QD mount and if I want to I can take it off put it on another rifle zero off the irons and go. When I am done I put it back on my primary rifle and re-zero to iron sights.

I plan on doing just this as funds allow.

no need for a qd mount, it takes zero time and is so quick/easy to remove. QD is almost laughable for a pro imho

In what context/way?

I prefer QD for numerous reasons, if optic takes a dump flip a lever and remove, removing magnified optics on certain builds to shoot BUIS (people should always practice occasionally with irons, and I abhor 45 degree irons), etc. But my favorite reason is that QD is nice when you have multiple optics for a single rifle. My go to carbine wears an Aimpoint Comp M4s in a Larue mount, but I also have a TA01NSN in a GDI acog mount to swap out with the Aimpoint if I need a magnified optic.

Chiming in with my .02 as newbie, but I found Amazon has some good prices on Aimpoint optics as well. I found an H-1 2 MOA for $560. I had initially looked at the Pro but then went with the H-1 because it seemed like a better fit for my application. Only reason I bought another lower before purchasing my optic was because of the pending legislation here in CA
