Hi everyone, I hope this is the right spot in the forum to post this.
Some background first: So I have this full size A2 from Olympic Arms with a heavy barrel that dates back to just before the Clinton ban. It had no extras at all. Availability was very low for any AR at the time. I chose this one because it had an awesome trigger out of the box. It almost feels like they accidentally put a match trigger in. I don't think it was supposed to have one.
So, back in the day, I put on a Delta cheek piece (I think that's what it was called). The one the wraps around the stock and clamps on with screws. It looks a little cheesy, but feels solid and functions well. Of course I have a cheap handle scope mount I bought at a gun show ($5?) that has a thumbscrew that works loose, which I used blue loctite on to solve. And a Simmons red dot sight on that. After taking it to the range a bit lately, I'd like to upgrade it to a better target shooting configuration and this is where I need the advice please.
First off, I'm tired of the wooden block + sandbags to rest the front on from the bench. I'm thinking a bi-pod. Do they have adjustable height? Can I mount one to a stock rifle?
Next, I'd like a better scope mount and a variable magnification scope to go with it. Maybe something in the 1x-?x There are two ranges I go to. One maxes out at 100yds, the other at 300yds. So advice on what type of scope to look for and a mount would be appreciated.
Lastly, the hand guards work fine. I just don't like the way they look or feel (they feel flimsy when squeezed). I don't need to mount lasers or lights or such. Just a bipod. I'm not really sure about the best way to approach the handguard/bipod issue.
Your input would be appreciated!
