I am seriously considering getting an adjustable trigger for my Bushmaster M4gery.  I have heard all kinds of warnings about what to buy - and what not to buy.  What advice can you who've experienced them give me?

Do you mean truly "adjustable" or simply "better"?

There was a pretty good hash over triggers   in "AR10 & AR180: Why a two-stage vice single stage trigger?"

Ok what are you going to be using it for? If you want a two stage, John Holiger worked over RRA's two stage. Best bang for the buck PERIOD.

The best 2 stage trigger you can get that is still 100% reliable is a Knight's Armament.

The best single stage trigger your can buy is the Accuracy Speaks.

The AS is half the price of the KAC trigger.

The AS requires some fitting.  The KAC drops in in under 5 min.
