First off, I apologize if these are dumb questions...  I'm new to AR's.

In a recent trade, I acquired a couple brand new DPMS AR-15 uppers.  Both are complete with the bolt assembly, both are HBAR's.  One of the uppers has a carrier that is a silver color (not black like my RRA M4gery).  Is this just a painted one (doesn't look like it), or is it a more expensive (or cheaper) carrier that's made out of a different material or coated?

Also, the uppers are new and don't have one single dab of lubrication or anything anywhere in them.  Do I need to use some gun oil (or something else) on the bolt or carrier (or elsewhere in the upper) before I fire them?

Thanks for any help!

You don't HAVE to, but would you run your car without oil? (it isn't as bad on a rifle, but it still accelerates wear by a huge factor)

THanks for the info guys.  Might I ask what CLP is?  Or is it just a lube that's available at any gun store?  Do I need to be careful about how much I apply to the bolt/carrier and/or where I put it in the internals?

CLP I beleive stands for Cleaner,Lubricant,Protector from rust, even after the oil dries the teflon it contains stays on the metal.

CLP is the cleaner and lube used by the US Army, it is good stuff, it can be found at most any gun store. By the way, I recommend the bottle version rather than the aerosol can version.
