Since the Troy front BUIS has a pretty thick front post with a flat top, has anyone ever tried to make this more accurate by taking it off and filing it down so that it has a sharpened tip?  I imagine that there must be a spring under the post but that if one is careful, it can be unscrewed without losing it.

What I was thinking is to chuck it on to a small hand holder and file it against a spinning Dremel sanding disk, seems like if one is careful, you could get a pretty sharp and centered end which should help in aiming.  A little flat black paint and a quick screw back onto the BUIS should complete the job.

Does this makes sense to anyone, and more importantly, has anyone tried this successfully?

OK, thanks!  Didn’t know that!  Just did a quick Google search but didn’t see any.  Do you have a source you could suggest?  I am bascially looking for something with a finer pointed tip.

Armalite and DPMS both make National Match front sight blades that are 0.050 wide (I am sure there are others).  KNS Precision also makes several special front sight posts.  You can find them on the company websites or at Brownells.com or Midwayusa.com  The KNS Precision site allows you to buy individual sights instead of the whole set.

+1 and I love it. I need to get more to use on all of my rifles but I always forget to when I place an order.

Wow!  These are great!  I am stunned especially by all the stuff available especially those from KNS, I know where the burden my credit card is going to come from tonight!  Thanks a BIG BUNCH!
