Having not shot in awhile due to college (and the fact I'm going back on Sunday), I decided I should head on out to the range and enjoy myself. Nevermind the fact it was 36 degrees and quite overcast. It was also a chance to test out my new Christmas present, a digital camera. I'm not much of a photographer, but I did my best
 My Bushmaster 20" A2  A pic of the range. My targets are the 3 man-shaped ones at 100 meters. There are 4 other berms, each one another 100 meters back, out to 500. The orange and gray are old and shattered clay pigeons that land there from the sporting clays course.  Feeding my rifle only the best  View through the aperture  My rifle was last sighted in for XM193, so I used the bench-rest for sighting in. This is the first group I shot, at 100m, with iron sights, using Wolf. I was quite suprised.  The group with my pinky for an idea, about 2"  After adjusting, my next group was high and right, but opened up a little. Still, all 5 in the head   I had the range all to myself, probably because of the weather. My lone AR-15 on the firing line  Picture of the clubhouse, parking lot, and sky  All out of ammo   Brass graveyard  After sighting in with a couple more groups, I used 80 to shoot on this target. I shot off-hand the whole time, shooting about once every 3-4 seconds. I was happy with using irons, off-hand, and Wolf at 100m, being able to get most shots on or around target when shooting fairly quickly. The third target was going to be for slow, aimed fire, but it was too bitter and I just blew the rest of my ammo on shooting at bowling pins  So ends another successful and fun range trip  |

 I get no end of amusement out of these, even if I have seen a bazillion photos of ARs.  Need a sling for that bad boy!

Thats a sweet range!
Shooting several steel targets at different distances would be way more fun than shooting paper. But most public ranges don't allow it.  Does yours?At the private range I go to, the aforementioned style of engagement is SOP. Hearing an audible ping from a steel target is very satisfying. Having several berms at different distances is cool! I wish we had mountains or hills atleast. Gotta love a 20" A2. HS1 |

Yup, and they provide the steel targets. At all distances we have boards for targets. At 100m, bowling pins. 200m - 4 steel chickens, 300m - 2 steel pig, 400m - 2 steel turkey, 500m - 1 steel ram. Nothing like shooting tracers at the ram, watchign them hit, and then hearing the clang. ETA: It's not a public range. Members pay $100 a year, for that range, a full sporting clays course, several bow ranges, indoor pistol range, black-powder/shotgun range, 25m pistol range, and another smaller rifle range with distances of 25m, 50m and 100m. Never any RO's, just get some executive officers walking around every month or so to see if people are wearing member tags. Most practice good gun safety, but I've seen horrible displays by some. I often have the range to myself however. Nothing like taking my WASR-10 10 yards away from a berm, throwing some intact clay pigeons on the dirt, and bumping a mag into them. |

Not only did some of that horrible Wolf bounce off the paper, but it also destroyed my rifle, held me at gunpoint, stole my wallet, and burned my car

Why not go with Federal American Eagle 55gr and 62gr? THey aren't as hot as Wolf but they are cleaner and more reliable. They are priced at like $95.00 for 500rnds or something. I'd rather have 500rnds of cleaner and more consistent ammo than 1000rnds of Wolf. - rem |

Second, feed your Bushmaster some better ammo. China-Mart has Remington .223 for just $3.97 a box. |

Sounds like a good time!
Just an idea... Photobucket has an edit function. If you use the edit function, you can make the image 75% of the original size and they would be perfect. They aren't huge pics, but just a tiny bit large for some monitors. |

Well, it's only used as practice ammo. It goes bang when I pull the trigger. It gives me a general idea of how I'm doing. Practice makes perfect, so the more I practice, the better I'll get. And yes, I do dry-fire a ton (it gets old). |

The range clubhouse looks like any one of a thousand Air Force buildings painted "Creech brown." And the concrete strips make it look like this was a trailer or RV park once... So where is this range and what's it called?
