I don't think a Bushmaster with an ace stock qualifies as "budget" even if you did stick a tacpoint on it
Is that the one you traded the a dead porcupine to some blind widow lady for? |
Sickmac90,
The mount came with the tacpoint. The seller offered the choice of a "low mount" or "cantelever" with the tacpoint. I agree about ground rules. After seeing some of the accessories and costs that some have put in building their AR's, I thought it appropriate to have a picture thread of the "Working Man's AR". For rules: the cost of all accessories should not exceed the original cost of the rifle by more than 40% or ~$300---and/or rifles that were assembled on the cheap....How does that sound? |
How do your add on rails to the stock handguards work out? Good enough for the vfg?
Why must you hurt me? The one you speak of is this one...... and it ran me the outrageous price of $160 |

What mount are you using on that tacpoint?! Where was it purchased?

Are those actual tacpoints or some other knock off? I thought you sent me a link in my IM that was like 65$buy it now. If so could you resend that link?

Right now my working mans AR consists of a DPMS M4 with a Leapers T168 scope that I purchased from Clearview for $39. I dropped the scope the other day off of my bench, 4 foot drop. Have to get out to see if the zero changed. Still deciding on an add-on rail and vfg, or if I just want to pony up for the YHM two piece replacement handguard.

longhorn789 where did you get that bayonet? I saw it somewhere, lost the link and have been trying ever since to find it again.

Let's see the cheapest I have built one is for 540ish.

Hey BadSVT, where did you get the C7 upper? I would like to get one but can't find em when I have funds.

Bump to the top. I added pictures of my budget AR15. I didn't go around getting used parts or anything but its pretty budget.
I will get some pictures outside tomorrow if I get a chance. No matter how many lights I turn on my pictures always look horribly dark. |

I don't have a picture handy for mine but I have built a couple budget ARs. In fact these were my first two ARs I owned.
1. Tapco Colt M16 complete kit (a couple years ago) for $275 and a CMT lower. Total cost was $387 with shipping. 2. A used VG A1 Bushmaster 20" HBAR w/pinned on muzzle comp complete with charging handle and bolt/carrier out the door at a gun show for $250! With the above lower the cost was only $350 but I eventually bought another lower/parts/stock. The lower and receiver parts were new, the stock and buffer parts were used. I think alltogether it ran me about $185 for them for a total of $435. One other cheap rifle I built was a Cav Arms MkI lower (completed) for $165 and a A2 16" CAR upper with bolt for $275 off of EBAY back when you could still buy them a few years ago. Total $440. |

Don't have photo handy, but got lucky on a budget A1.
Complete chrome barrel A1 upper with poorly neutered bayo lug $160 Replaced FSB with one with lug $20 DPMS lower $97 incl tax DPMS LPK $53 incl tax A1 stock and grip $15 Buffer, tube, spring $25 M16 bolt, carrier $0 (bought two for $100, sold other) TOTAL $370 Could have trimmed up FSB and used A2 grip and cost would have been $345. It's fun to build up a budget rifle every so often to see what you can have on a limited budget if you are diligent. In this case a nice looking light weight chrome barreled AR on a name brand lower. |

Ok Stickman, not fair! The only thing that would go better with my wine is if you tell me that it is entirely Colt. You should IM me the names of your suppliers.
No list of suppliers, and don't worry, it is certainly not all Colt.
Its a matter of not wanting to buy any more AR15 parts, and then suddenly all sort of deals come along. There are a few more AR15s I've built up cheaply in the same manner. |
Its a cheapest AR15 thread, you've got to post how much it cost you..... |
Mrs. Stick is sitting here right now, and we both agree, without any doubt, that I might have one....
Check for my previous post it has all of the important info in it. |

Please excuse me for not remembering your post from 2 months ago on a different page. I can't figure out how I could have missed it after you having been here for 6 months, your posts are usually one of the first I look for. |
