While I've got a fairly extensive spare parts kit in the Tango Down VG, I'm curious to see what actual part failures folks have experienced and want to adjust the kit accordingly.

I personally had a bolt cam pin and firing pin retaining pin that exhibited extreme wear & I replaced them before they catastrophically failed. Other than that, I guess I've been luck.

I've only had a leg on the hammer spring break and I've only seen a bolt break right where it's thin going around the cam pin. thats it.

Even with an obnoxiously high round count through it, the only parts I've ever broken on my M16 have been 2 extractors.

The most common failure I've seen with the M16s was the hammer spring breaking.

I used to have a colt upper that was almost twenty years old. It had something like 20,000 rounds through it. I think the previous owner put 15,000 of that in full auto fire. Anways the bolt head cracked radially along the hole where the cam pin goes. The only way I really saw it was because it was hard chromed and I was cleaning the carbon off after a long day of shooting. That's when I replaced the barrel and bolt head with new parts.

Broke an FSB taper pin in half, does that count?

I've replaced firing pin retaining pins, triggers, hammers, and gas rings because they were getting pretty worn, but nothing has actually broken (yet) on any of my ARs.

That said, it seems the bolt breaking where the cam pin goes through it seem pretty common. I've seen a friend's rifle do this during a 3-gun match. He wasn't a happy camper to zero a high-point stage.

Hammer and trigger pins broke in half.

These were from a DPMS lower parts kit. The cause was probably the J-pin, that broke off from a Knight's trigger. This allowed the hammer pin to walk out and subsequent firing caused the hammer pin to snap. The off-center hammer probably caused the damage to the trigger pin as well.

roll pin that holds the charging handle latch on my Norinco

Had the gas tube bend and lock my gun up. Had to take the stock off to get it apart.

I've only had a beat to hell firing ping retaining pin so bent I could not get it in with out a pliers, and somehow part of a gas ring that sheared off.

Part that have broken:

(2) firing pin retaining pins
(1) extractor
(1) disconnector
(1) DPMS non-chrome lined barrel which stated key holing rounds
(1) Bolt which had a locking lug break off

So far that is it.
