I heard that using an extra long mag or a beta-c can be hard on the AR magazine springs. Is this true?

I read somewhere that the magazine catch system on the AR is only intended for the weight of a 30 round loaded mag. Putting heavy 60 and 100 round mags and drums in the well will eventually cause the catch and spring to break.
