This is a reply I rec'd from Grant:

The #40A2 has a traditional A2 aperture. The #40 has a cut horizon line for 300m shooting. Grant's Link

Yes, but the horizon line is for 500-600 yards.  Both sights are set up to shoot 300 meters with the small aperture.
