Well, last week I got my cheapo upper back from Randall.  I have to say I am most pleased with the work and turn around time.

Here is the rifle...

He refinished and put on the Yankee Hill customizable free float and railed gas block.  To answer the first obvious question,,,because I allready had the 16" barrel already and I still wanted it to be carbine length.  To answer the second question I'm saving up for a better scope.  Anyway...the free float and bipod really make a diference.  I was able to get three rounds touching while I was zeroing.  But I didn't do to well when I moved it out.  I atribute it to my shooting and the heat.  But it will keep as many rounds as I care to shoot in a five inch target.

Here is my range...

It's being rebuilt so we didn't have any benches or cover (good training of course) and I would have prefered to sit at a bench for the ZERO.

Now I've got to think about scope.  I'm thinking 2-7x33 Leupy rifleman in some kind of one piece mount.  Then I'll think about some better performing ammo.

Nice!!  Randall does excellent work, he reprofiled and threaded a Olyarms 16" HBAR to medium profile for me.

Cool! Upper looks awesome man. I see that you painted your china scope too.

That t-shirt rocks man. I want one to wear at work.

Hey, that upper looks familiar...

How do you like the grip pod?

For bench work, get some 20 round mags.
I rarely use 30's anymore, except when running and dumping (3 gun).
In tight spaces, proned out or on the bench, 20's rule.

The Harris is actually a better straight bipod with its height adjustments and all...but it just took up to much room under the handguard.  The grip-pod is fine for its intended purpose as a bridge between a CQB piece and a real tack driver.  It is high enough for the 30 rounders but I do keep some 20s on hand for the reason stated.

I'm pleased with it, I'll get some groups posted when I get the new glass on.

I doubt I'm gonna make this weekend.  My fun money is pretty tied up in this project right now.  But I'll let you know when the next time I'm heading to the range will be.  We're about to start having a practical rifle match there, probably in October.
