I don't think there is any "state" where possession is prohibited as long as the firearm meets various criteria; pre-ban/post-ban configuration (NY), registration date (Kali), possession before a certain date, etc.  Here in New York, I can possess any AR-15 style as long as it is either made before 9/13/1994 with "evil" features or in "post-ban" configuration.  However, there are various cities where possession is prohibited/banned; New York City comes to mind.

From what I gather AR's are illegal in CA and NJ. In CA you had to register any AR (pre or post) you had before 1/1/2000, not sure if grandfathered ARs are legal in NJ. NY, CT and MA have laws mirroring the old federal AWB, ones made before 9/13/94 are legal, after that they must be in postban configuration. HI may have one, I'm not sure.

How about Pennsylvania? Anyone knows how's the "mood" regarding AR's and other goodies!!

PA is good concerning AR's. I'm not that familiar with PAs laws so there may be local cities and towns with their own AWBs.

Not PA has preemption laws so locals can't have their own AWB.

PA is fairly gun friendly and you can attend somre really good training out Pittsburgh way at the FIRE Institute.

There is one way to get around the assualt weapon ban in CA.  And that is to purchase a lower, like the Fab-10, which have a none detachable magazine.  In that configuration, the AR is not considered an assault rifle.

Damn Liberals!!

AR's are legal in NJ as long as they are AWB compliant. None of the 'fun stuff' and no mags over 15 rnds.

ARs marked Colt AR15 or Sporter are illegal. Lots of sense these laws make. Did you know murder is illegal too?

Colt AR-15's are are banned in NJ as assault weapons as they are specified by name in the law, however Colt Match Target rifles are perfectly legal.  Makes a lot of sense!!
