I have a DPMS LR260 that I purchased for the sole purpose of P-Dog shooting in SD.
Turns out the Rosebud reservation where we shoot decided on a new rule this year, they set a maximum bullet diameter of .257.
While the rule makes no sense to me it does render my LR260 and the 500 rounds I loaded up useless to me.

Anyone know if there is a 25 chanbering that would function in the LR260 with just a barrel change?
I assume that a 257 Roberts or Weatherby would require a new bolt and not sure they would fit in the magazine.
I don't know if there is something like a 25-308 since but I assume that would function with no other changes.

243 Win would be the easiest option, just swap the barrel, check your headspace (which should be good) and get some ground hogs dead! 243 Barrels are available from several different sources but here are a few

That was the first suggestion I got from my barrel guy as well.
The problem is I have 6mm DTI upper on order so I wanted to go 25 so as not to have two that similar.

I would still go with the 243. The bullet selection is much better (higher bc)

agree on a .243win or 6mm remington. the 115gr dtac is supposedly a phenominal bullet. there's also the 6mm crusader(improved 6mm remington). same bolt face as .308 and holds 8.5gr more powder than .243 and is supposed to push the 115 DTAC to 3200-3300ft/sec. good for 1000-1500 yds

There is a 25 Souper(308 necked down to .257) but I don't know where you could get a barrel

This. I love variety too, but I think the alternatives are pretty few and far between in a non completely custom build.

The .25 Souper (aka .25-308).

243 would probably be the cheapest was to go unless you're just interested in the exotic stuff...

The 6mm bullets are a little shorter than some of the others, which opens up some possibilities... like a 6mm on the 7 x 57 case, improved...

Thanks to all that replied.
I can't argue with the 243/6mm recommendations but really wanted to go with a 25.
I ordered a 257 DGR from Brux barrels today.

I like that! Where did you find the reloading dies?

Thanks,

This is obviously late but just for everyone else GAP is working on a 6 Creedmoor for their GAP-10 rifles. The shorter case of the 6.5 Creedmoor brass will allow the heavier 6mm pills to fit comfortably in the SR-25 magazines without being seated so deep. They're projecting velocity's of 3000-3050 fps with the 105 pills. Could be interesting!

The guy that originated the cartidge is getting me a set of Hornady dies.

He has load data that looks interesting as well.

Read many good things about the Creedmoor but the .257 is the max allowed diameter where we P-Dog hunt.

Right the 6.5 Creedmoor wouldn't work but with GAP's 6 Creedmoor (243) it should do just fine.

Looks like a great cartridge. Gotta love that 30 degree shoulder and the long neck....should produce some tight groups.
Seems to be right there with 25-06 performance.

Sorry did not catch the 6 verses 6.5, did not know there was such a thing in a Creedmoor.
Will have research for next upper.

I'm getting 3,000 fps with the BRX and 105 gr bullets.

Well George just gave an update saying his 105's were 3130 and 115's were 2980, but regardless seeing as he is asking about a barrel option on a large frame not an AR-15. . .

(although 3000fps is impressive for an AR-15 considering mag restrictions and all)

The 115s is definitely a reason to go with the AR10, I can't use them in the BRX.
