I've never used the AN/PEQ-2 Laser, or any other laser for that matter. So I don't have the practical experience to answer this question.

Its O-dark thirty and PFC Smith illuminates his target with the IR laser on his PEQ-2 while peering through his NVG. How does he distinguish his laser dot from those emitted by the rest of his squad and platoon?

usually because you have a general idea where your' aiming and your laser responds to your movements.....if your moving the rifle right and a laser is moving left....i think it's safe to say you know that one isn't yours....

You can also see the laser like a light saber in many conditions using night vision.
