I'm glad I read through these before posting... How does this ammo rate. I was considering buying 500-1000 rounds. I had a guy @ the gun show this weekend trying to sell me this stuff for $300 a case of 500!!! I told him he was off his nut!

Thanks,
David

I believe that this ammo was discussed previously.  If you do search you should be able to find info on it.  Also check out the tacked ammunition review thread.

i just bought a case of it.  after reading posts here i went through half of it so far and threw away 8 rounds out of the first 500.  a couple had split necks, some were dented badly, one had a crease running longitudinally down the case and two were crushed when the bullet was seated and the shoulders were bulged.  aside from those 8, the others looked pretty good.  if you roll them along a flat surface, you can see the bullet isn't seated 100% on center in some of them,  so i'm not expecting much in the way of accuracy.  it was cheap, comes packed 20 to a box with dividers between each round and sealed primers.  the crimp is a bit strange looking to me being a six sided crimp.  i didn't see any flaws in the bullets themselves,  just the cases on some of them. the bullets actually looked pretty good.  its a 2003 lot and unfortunately i won't get a chance to go shoot it until Feb. 5th so i'll have to wait until then to report back on how it actually shoots.

Please everyone who responds:

Take a moment to look at your ADCOM ammo (if you had problems) and note the lot date.  It seems most of the problems reported (with a couple exceptions) are having to do with the 1999 and 2000 years of manufacture.

I have shot a pile (well, about 300 rounds anyway) of 2003 manufacture and have not experienced any bad cases, blown primers, or other malfunctions.  I wonder if the root cause of the 13% dissaticfaction in the ammo review is due to poor quality control during that time period.

This ammo is priced pretty good for brass cased, and the later years seem to be mostly problem free.  However, I would like to be able to make that statement based on more than the current anecdotal evidence (or know for sure that it ain't true).

Thanks
HWK

Say AIM, when do I get my free case for this endorsement?????

I almost fell over today when I checked the ammo price list for M855.   I am glad I REALLY stocked up on M193 and M855 in 04 & 05.  I just ordered more Adcom for range use.  It should run well in the 1/7 twist of the SERB.  Thanks for posting this because when I checked the price list I just saw the $170 price and not the free shipping.

I have another 1k coming in Thursday 1/26.  Just ordered another 1k today.  I find when I order it 1k at a time I get newer ammo.  When I order a 2k package its usually 99 or 00 head stamp.  Since Aim has been selling it I bought 3 lots of 2k and 3 lots of 1k and the 2k lots have all been older99-00 than the 1ks 03+.   When you order 2k you don't get two 1k or 4 500 round cases.  It's packaged totally different from the source.  You get 100 boxes in a large cardboard box.  I do think you get this ammo fresher ordering 1K at a time.  I will let you know what I get Thursday.

Yupper...I just saw the sale and took the plunge and bought a 1K case yesterday. I expect it to work pretty good based on the poll that's running on a another thread.

I also ordered 1,000 rounds of ADCOM from AIM.  I had previously(last year) ordered a 500 round box from AIM and all rounds were 2004 dated. All rounds looked good with no visible major defects. Just a few minor case dings.  I have not fired any yet.   I'll post on the lot that I receive.
Please if you make any comments about the ADCOM that you received, state the lot # and/or headstamp date.  Otherwise, your comments are next to worthless.

I got my 1,000 rnd case along with two cases of the South African .308 from them today. The stuff they sent me has a 2003 date on it. I only looked over one box but so far it looks good. As for the crimp I have seen it before but dont know where. On a side note My rifle shoots 55grn fine will it do the same for the 62 stuff? Will a 7 grain difference really show unstable flight if 55 works good? I think I have a 1/7 but it may be a 1/9 not sure since it is a Model one kit.

When I ordered my 1k, I mentioned that there were some folks that had some concerns about the quality of the ammo... that there had been some dings, splits & bad crimps... She said they are aware of it & that it was in fact a bad batch... just thought I'd pass it on for what it's worth.

The order I received last week was for 2K (before the free shipping deal).  When it came in it was 00 HS.  I just received my 1K order and its 04 HS and packeged completely different.  I think it's safe to say if you order 1K at a time you get fresher ammo.   Before I put in my last 2K order I called and asked about the HS date and was told the 2K cases were 99 and 00 HS.  I would have to say if you want to order 2K or more purchase them one 1K at a time and you get the fresher ammo.  With the free shipping the price per K is the same.  Thats how I ordered it this time.  One K a day.

Edited for spelling

WARNING!!!! THIS STUFF DAMAGES TARGETS!!!!

Steel targets are not designed for Green Tip and this stuff, while not marked with a green tip, has a steel core.  Don't even think about showing up to a rifle shoot with this stuff or any form of green tip/steel core ammo. Not one with steel targets that is. I.E., Blackwater 3gun, rifle side match @ Blackwater, Black Creek, Waldorf, Mason/Dixon 3gun, etc.   It might be fine to shoot against paper and if thats all you shoot, hey, great; buy and shoot all of it you want. Just don't show up to a match with it or any form of SS-109. Thanks.

We shoot 1" steel plates on our 120 yd range with it.  Makes a good dent.  We also use bowling pins.  The 25 -50 yard steel silhouette targets are off limits to all center fire rifle.

I called AIM today and asked them, "if I picked it up at the window, could I specify a year of manufacture, ie, 2002 newer?"

They asked why, and I mentioned the concerns over the older lots.  They said:

1) no, its whatever gets pulled off the pallet next.

2) all 1999 ammo has been removed from the sales inventory, so its all 2000 and newer.

I did not ask if this also applied to 2k orders, though, since from some of the posts this seems to be a different packaging format, and possibly may have some 99 in the "bulk" pallet shipment.

Lesson I guess:  buy it in 1k lots.

Thats the trick. With the free shipping I order 1K and when I get my tracking # I order another 1K and on and on and on.  Always get the newer ammo.

Hate to throw a wrench in the algorithm, but I ordered 1k and received today. Shipped 50 boxes in 2 500ct boxes in one shipping box.

Out of 500 rounds I've checked so far I have 20 bad rounds. They are (all 1k) HS '00'. Most of the defects are major dents and 6 very mis aligned bullets.

I'll check the other 500, but I suspect the results will be similar.

I got a case of 2004 head stamps and they still had a lot of issues. The first box I opened had like 7 unusable rounds and 1 squib. Out of each box I found 1-2 seriously flawed rounds and some very questionable that I didnt fire. Be careful no matter what the date, check each round as you are loading them.

BTW, this was also the first ammo I've ever had to hand-inspect prior to shooting. Normally I get good XM193 or Ammoman's M855 which is zero-defects "front-line" ammo. Personally I'd find it a living hell to buy 2,000 rounds of this stuff and have to constantly check it.

Actually it isn't a steel core.  It is a steel tipped.

Steel core ammo is Armor piercing.  M855 ammo is not armor piercing.

I had ordered this stuff before, lot AML04M010-007 and out of 300 rounds not a problem.

Based on that I ordered some1K of the 'deal' ammo.

Some deal.

This time I got the 2000 stuff, packed in two 500 round cartons, lot AML00M010-003.  There were 31 rounds too dangerous to shoot (split necks, large dents, one mutated bullet, 2 bullets not coaxial, and 2 with what appears to be delaminating cases or perhaps some drawing problems?

Another 57 had light dents that checked ok in the case gage, the other 912 looked ok.  Interestingly these have no annealing marks, but the 2004 stuff does.

Back to reloading my plinking ammo after this stuff is gone.

Shot 112 rounds of the lightly dented and randomly selected rounds , Sunday 29 Jan,  from 14.5" and 16" Colts, no malfunctions.  Chronographed results show that it is not hot compared to M855, RG, or Santa Barbara SS109 which run 2850 to 2930 fps (16" bbl).  ADCOM average from 16" 2818 fps (10 round average) and from 14.5", 2805 fps (11 round average).

For the full-auto shooters, this stuff works fine, 650 rpm in my 14.5" Colt with heavy buffer.

I will wait and see how AIM responds to the 31 rounds.

I received 1000 rds today, packed as 50 boxes in one cardboard container.  Lot number is AML02M010-005 with 02 headstamp.  Most of the rounds look good cosmetically - shiney and have the annealed neck/shoulder.  I did cull 10 rounds.  Six rounds had substantial dents and 4 rounds had creases in the neck that will likely split if fired.  The creases appear to have happened during the case forming operation.  I did not find any rounds with improperly seated bullets.

Certainy Adcom will not be putting outfits like Black Hills out of business   But as practice ammo it may be acceptable.  I need to get out to the range and try some of this stuff.

After buying some Georgia Arms this weekend... I'm not so sure. I found a total of 40rds unshootable from the ADCOM stuff. And for $170 shipped, I paid $170 + tax for Georgia Arms .223 55grn at the show yesterday and it looks like brand new ammo. I've used their ammo before for years, but this is the 1st AR, so 1st .223 I've bought from them. It's listed as 3150fps... we'll see, but from experience with their other ammo, they are very consistant.

I'll be going back to old faithfull from GA.

bought 1000 rounds and was pretty satisfied with the quality..until i got to the range and the clerk was able to pick the round up with a magnet. Kinda sorry i didnt know about the steel inside the round that makes it unusable in most indoor ranges around here. Im in Vegas and there arent many outdoor ranges about except for out in the desert and, even then you must be careful of where you go.

Now off to buy 1000 rounds of standard lead core.

I think that the 2000 stuff has the annealing polished off just like the commercial ammo.   Manufacturers figure that customers would not think annealing was 'pretty', shiny is better.  (Hey Gomer them bullets is sure purty).

ADCOM probably figured out polishing the rounds was a waste of time for military-type ammo.
