As the title says, just started building (and finishing up) my first 7.5" PDW build. I went with Adams Arms 7.5" Tactical Elite upper and PRI flip up sights. Have it sitting on a Sun Devil billet lower with RRA lpk. Hopefully getting my Geissele trigger soon too.

Now, i have two questions. What is the best pistol buffer tube kit to run on the PDW? I was considering ordering the Spikes kit, thoughts? As of now i am running a militarty short buffer assembly i got from a guy locally online, but want a "standard" length pistol buffer tube.

Second, since it's a 7.5" it's going to be incredibly loud. Any recommendations on flash hider? Wanted the KX3 but i will not be able to remove the piston for cleaning. Was considering the Smith Vortex or AAC Blackout.

Thanks guys!

The smith vortex and other flash hiders aren't going to help much.  A couple of popular options to direct the blast down range are the Kies master blaster or the Troy claymore.  These should perform similar to the kx3.

Thanks for the suggestions. Does the Kies or Troy Claymore get in the way of the piston when removing? Thanks.

Would the LeVange clear the piston for removal when cleaning? Like the look of the LeVange, simple. Thank you

So far. Spikes pistol buffer kit and Claymore coming soon.

I have the 7.5 AA piston kit like you. My AAC flash hider blocked the piston.  My Troy Claymore does not - just enough clearance.  Pondered using a Phantom but that fireball will be too big even for a phantom or smith I think.

why not save some cash and use a regular carbine buffer ? and add a foam pad

Can you use a regular carbine buffer on a AR pistol? Thought it strictly had to use a pistol buffer?

Anyways, i got a hold of a Phase 5 pistol buffer kit so i will be installing that. Came with the foam cover and planning on adding a CAA Saddle cheek weld.

The Adams Arms people said to use a lightweight/carbine buffer when I asked about the 7.5" upper.

Im not sure on spring/buffer weight.

But the Phase 5 is the exact same lenght as the carbine tube. I purchased a phase 5 and put it next to the carbine tube. The spring and buffer also look identical. The only differeance in the tube is the place where the buttstock lock into position.

I like the PWS enhanced buffer tubes for piston builds, as there is an extended "shelf" to catch the tail of the carrier and prevent any tilt from gouging the upper/buffer tube.
(And I don't care what some say, there is no such thing as a tilt-free AR piston system, it's just a matter of how well-supported the carrier is on the tail end.)

I used the Adams 7.5" PDW upper on my pistol build.
I used the Spikes pistol buffer tube with a standard carbine buffer... The heavy buffer Spikes included caused some FTF with steel cased ammo, worked fine with brass cases.
I use the Levang Linear Comp... Piston disassembles just fine with it in place.  I have a KX3 but never considered mounting it... Might try it to see how much it blocks the piston.

Nice! Pics?

The KX3 will have to be removed every time  you want to remove the piston for cleaning. I'm going with a Troy Claymore.

The KX3 certainly does block the piston,... Shame as it worked really well.
I really like the Levang Linear Comp... Recoil pulse is easily manageable, muzzle stays on target and I can pull the piston without trouble.
I mounted the Levang back up and put the KX3 back onto a DI upper.

FYI, Troy claymore clears the Adams Arms piston too.

Anyone else here with an actual 7.5" AA upper have cycling issues based on ammo?  Mine has been in the shop twice now for cycling issues and after getting it back it's still not running 100%.  They've polished the chamber, enlarged the gas port hole size, and replaced the BCG.  Before it would not cycle any ammo properly.  Now it will run IMI, Federal/LC 556, and even Sellier & Bellot 223, but it will not run PMC Bronze 223 or Silver Bear 223.  With the latter two, it will fire the round and eject the casing, but will not load the next round.  I'm running the carbine buffer per AA's instructions with a Rock River pistol buffer tube kit.  AA's customer service has been great, I'm just curious if anyone else has had similar issues and figured out what the issue was.

Mine has had zero issues, honestly. Ran federal, remington, independence, and PCM all during "break in." Have put one 20 round box of Herters steel case and surprisingly ate it without a hiccup.

Honest question... Do you really like that trigger guard?

Kies Master Blaster

Troy Claymore

Levang Linear Compensator

Are all basically the same thing... Just different profiles.

The trigger guard doesn't bother me, it works. I have a spare Magpul trigger guard i was planning on adding but honestly don't worry about the looks of it lol

The Kies Master Blaster looks god btw
